Epic win.

Not only as an important step towards playoffs, but a poignant memory for Dale fans, remembering Joey T.

The performance wasn't perfect but it doesn't need to be to win games at this level. We went toe to toe with a decent Altrincham team in their own back yard and beat them with energy, desire and a fighting spirit. We played a game of football how it should be played and it was enjoyable to watch. The performance was epitomised by Harvey Gilmour, the way he carried the ball forward in the last minute and the pass to Rodney for his goal was like watching Gary Jones at his best. He dragged the team along with him yesterday and he was also very vocal in lifting his team mates when Altrincham came on to us strong. Gilmour and East have been asked to do too much this season with no adequate support in the midfield position, that needs to change for next season because Gilmour was doing the job of two men yesterday at times. Edwards is still young and shows some nice touches and plenty of promise but he isn't ready to be a regular starter yet, he needs to be handled properly and next season could be a big one for him.

From a personal point of view I owe Barrett an apology as after the Spennymoor debacle I questioned his competence on here.
He’s earned his corn in the last couple of games though.
Credit the team as well - at one stage it seemed that the game was following a familiar away template of spurning chances and then surrendering a lead.
Gilmour had other ideas though, driving forward looking for a winner when he could so easily have just reverted to a back pass.
Perhaps there’s a new and welcome accent on aggression just at the right stage of the season.
Big win under the circumstances as Alty now more or less have to win up to qualify with their next game being at Halifax.
Would be nice if they could win that!

We always seem to finish the season with a wet sail and hoping we keep it up - would much prefer us to finish 4th than 5th and avoid an away trip to York or Barnet in the playoff semis should we get that far.

Just caught up on the Joey T thread too. We're reminded what we share in common on weekends like this so on that note just a quick one to Kel to say I hope you and your family are doing ok and very much hope you'll be back contributing on here soon.

Definitely York are a team to avoid. Hopefully they do us a favour on Monday beating Oldham. Barnet have hit a bit of a wall so although they are top at the minute if they did finish 2nd I wouldn't mind playing them as they will be on a massive downer after leading the pack all season.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
Poll: Are fans more annoyed losing or not playing Henderson centre forward?

No post-match from Jim yesterday. Probably a considerate and sensitive move. Jim will have played alongside Joey T and there will have been a ton of emotions flying round.

Onwards to Monday.

UP THE DALE!
