Since Warburton Left 06:46 - Apr 27 with 1461 viewsNorthantsHoop

For me it has all gone downhill since Mark Warburton left, during his tenure we were competitive, rarely got turned over big time, played some nice football and were comfortably finishing top half of the table. I know that there was the failed play off push spending stuff, but we did have something about us home and away that made us a bit of a force in the division, now we are just seen as a team that rolls over and that has been especially shown in the last 2 home games. In comparison look at Millwall, their record last few seasons been of a top 10 team with outside push for a play off chance on a few occasions, really we should be surely able to match them.

It’s about identity. (Which Millwall have in abundance) - For all QPR’s talk about identity; when we brought in warburton back in 2019 - at the point that Critchley left, the owners had their usual brain fart and veered into a totally different direction with Ainsworth. Then having decimated the warbs-Beale-Critchley ‘game model’ (TM) squad through Ainsworth; when we sacked Ainsworth and veered back towards Marti-ball we needed a major re-build. …if QPR would just stick to a plan we’d have a hope!

I am one that was always in the Warburton camp and like most knew it was a massive error to let him go, at that time.

But he may well have left anyhow.

As for QPR having a consistent plan - chalk never operates with cheese....

Ie the plan is to never have a plan !!!

The failed playoff push was scuppered by a huge injury crisis at the end of the season which included losing 3 or 4 keepers and Willocks hamstring exploding .
He should have been given another year IMO but Ferdinand "got rid " of him (LF words)
Class ........

And so the Warburton mythos rolls on. The injury issues were misleading, as things had started to slide south before that. Of our final 18 games, we lost 11 and won a paltry four (anyone remember that stylish loss at home to Peterboro along the way?). Mark and his team had lost the plot and lost their way, and he deserved to go. As with Cifuentes this season, the team went backwards on the previous year, and the Board took a realistic view of it. To say his dismissal caused our problems since is barmy wishful thinking. The club's, by and large, been a car crash in the Champ for as long as i care to remember.

We had Barbet, Wallace, Johansson, Willock and Dykes out injured and Kieren Westwood in goal.

So you don't think Warburton & Eustace would have been a semi-coherent 5 year plan at a club with our Board & infrastructure?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Eustace is an incredibly talented championship manager...

What he said years ago about certain players still rings true today. We just attract a certain kind of attitude, we can't shake it.

I haven't forgotten that the latter part of Warburton's time was when the team started pissballing around at the back and boring the pants off us. Early days with him were good but it did turn turgid at the end.

Warburton was our Charlton Athletic moment.

Peteborough is all I can say about Warbs time 3 defeats to a relegated side. That defeat first week in Jan did Warbs for me.

Heavy defeat to Burnley and the world has ended. We can’t compete with top 3 in this league. Our aim has to be mid table and occasionally get into the playoffs. Then who knows. And we build from there.

We weren’t a match for Burnley and maybe we should go into those games a bit like our away game against them. But you can’t judge the squad and the season based on that game. We’ve competed with Bristol and Coventry, could have beaten Cov home and away, and Bristol at home. We gave Sheffield a good game and Leeds at home.

Our issues are primarily threefold. 1) injures - we cannot lose our best players for long parts of the season eg JCS and Chair, now Field. And expect to replace with equally good players. We are not a Burnley or Leeds.
2) Consistency - Varane and Morgan are good young players. Don’t care what anyone says, both at various times have delivered in games. But for different reasons they have been inconsistent. As they play more in this league that will change.
3) Some weak areas in the side, being full back, striker and 1 more quality central midfielder. If we can strengthen those areas in the summer and sort the injuries out, we’ll be fine next season.
