Zeidane on 12:35 - May 3 with 3201 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I want to see a Swansea team with at least one player with showman showreel skills. This makes me happy and looking forward to seeing games. It is part of Swansea's recent heritage. Trundle help drive the surge up the leagues and rebirth of Swansea as a football city. Routledge was an absolute diamond and Celina continued the style of spectacular goals and outrageous skills. This guy looks to have this as well. Eom has tricks also.

Zeidane on 11:49 - May 3 by KeithHaynes | Basic payment mate, far less than a million and then spread over the term of the contract. Only thing now is the length of the deal which I would say now is sorted. |
It's still a lot of debt to be carrying on the books, even if it's spread out. Buy now, pay later economics.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

They are basing it on future investment I’ve been told, and that is coming. Plus a predicted increase in commercial revenue. Tyler Morse is at work there.

Zeidane on 10:08 - May 3 by Dr_Winston | There is a certain amount of risk in using the "Chelsea Method" of distributing transfer costs. Fine when keeping the balance sheet healthy for the purposes of PSR, but it does leave you laden with long term debt, which nearly did for us when we dropped out of the Premier League. I sincerely hope that we're not committing this much cash from our budget on one player, no matter how much potential we think he has. I could be more accepting of an "up to £5m" deal with plenty of promotion/performance bonuses/sell on clauses attached. |
Surely bonuses and clauses are potential debt pushed down the line too? I'm not keen on there youtube clips, lets face it, most players (even speaking just for myself) if you put all their best moments into a 5 minute clip, could be made to look useful. I'll trust in the new regime and the scouts and then reserve judgement until we see them live...many times! There is a lot more to be positive about these days though.

Bonuses and clauses are money you "might" have to pay in a situation where you'd have the ability to do so. I'm just uncomfortable with the prospect of paying out fees like this knowing how close we've come to the precipice in the distant and near past no matter what kind of financial shenanigans are taking place.

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Checked him out a bit now. Foot injury and out for 7/8 weeks. Was also out for 3 months Oct- Jan with a back injury. Sounds injury prone.

Zeidane on 08:03 - May 3 by pete | with all the early talk of guys coming in looking like we may , just may have something positive happening for a change and if so and the manager and D O F speak in positive mode there is a chance we could keep Darling and he could be part of the club moving forwards and maybe upwards as well, who knows? |
As much as I like Delcroix we definitely missed Darling yesterday

Since the introduction of PSR it seems this is the way football is now. Players in and out with the finances spread over the term of the contract with incentives paid to the club and player over the term. Sign a free agent and the signing on fee is spread over the contract. It's even the way with top British and European clubs.

I know and people need to understand that finances are not as simple as players out for £X we can spend £X. There are so many variables even with players off the books saving wages.

More in hope than anything but maybe it's a means to keep the value of players at a "reasonable" level.

🔴 Zeidane Inoussa updated on 12:09 - May 4 with 1610 views | Dr_Winston | Don't get me wrong, I understand the reasons behind spreading the fee over the length of the contract. It's the size of the fee itself I have the biggest problem with.

If it is £5m that’s absolutely nuts. A million is a gamble.

I’m with you on this. It’s putting the house on us being able to increase revenue quite dramatically. If we don’t, we’re sailing close to the wind for a few years, without further spending (not this deal in isolation, but spreading big fees over long terms in general). Having said that, I’ll bow to Tyler Morse when it comes to increasing revenue. If he’s confident in it, that gives me a bit of comfort.

Have a little look of him and you can see why Celtic looked at signing him, yes £5 million is big for us but if players like him and Widdel get us in the top 6 next season it will be money well spent

Agree, but it's nice to see our owners are showing some ambition, we are certainly putting down a statement for next season

🔴 Zeidane Inoussa updated on 12:59 - May 4 with 1467 views | Dr_Winston | Just getting into the top six really should be the bare minimum expectation if we're chucking around this kind of money. In reality it would take us quite close to a "promotion or bust" scenario if the mooted increases in cashflow fail to materialise.

Surely that's we will be aiming for, the 4 contesting the play offs this season are not that great

Inflation considered its probably on par with the 1.5m we paid for Sinclair back in the day from Chelsea

The Bank of England inflation calculator suggests that £1.5m in 2010 would equate to £2.28m today. Not that we paid that much for him. It was an initial £500k with the potential to rise to £1m. £500k then would be worth approx £760k now. [Post edited 4 May 15:40]
