We need them now after we sent all the young Europeans back in 2016.. The number of Indians around is becoming very noticeable. Every garage and late night store.

Personally, I wonder where the limits of "need" should be drawn. Do we really need services like Deliveroo or late night stores opening if it leads to transformational change for the worse in our quality of life and culture?

Starmer reversing on 21:01 - May 6 with 883 views | Dr_Winston | I spent the last election cycle expecting the Tories to lose because they deserved to. I did not expect their replacements to be significantly worse. The general standard of our elected representatives is in the toilet, and the only thing I can think of that might improve matters is to double, perhaps even triple MP's pay, but reduce their numbers by half. Doubling their pay might attract the kind of individual actually capable of doing the job (most people of the type can earn far more elsewhere), reducing their numbers by half might concentrate the quality. I read that as part of the deal no Indian working in the UK would be subject to NI contributions. Not being able to open the link I don't know if that was mentioned in the article.

And it’s now based on negativity. We’ve now got the details and know what we’re talking about: - Indian companies can second workers temporarily to the uk and not pay NI for that period to prevent double taxation - this kind of agreement we already have with around 50 countries - the trade agreement will generate billions of pounds for our economy - it’s the biggest agreement since Brexit - people will see costs fall on some significant products - British businesses will benefit from increased imports Yet this has morphed into ‘Indians are taking our jobs’

The psychologists say that negatively gets more of our attention, so that is why we see so much, it pays.

I’ve read that too. Twitter being prime example. It was a cesspit before Musk took over. I don’t have the words for it now. [Post edited 7 May 18:04]

Well done Gwyn. You saved me posting something similar. I fully expected the brexiteers on here to jump on this arguing about it being a brexit benefit. What a strange world we are living in.

This trade deal is our biggest since Brexit and represents only 0.1% of our GDP. All trades deals added together since Brexit add up to 0.5%. Still a long way to go to make up for the loss 4% incurred. Typical of Farage to frame it as 'Indians taking British jobs'. Never turned up to meetings to represent British fisherman in Europe, has barely set foot in Clacton where he is supposed to reprsent his constituency. The guy is a grifter who continues to spout his nonsense and people continue to fall for it.

Yep. Also the cost to move a worker over means they probably won’t be cheaper to employ anyway. And it’s the lies that slow everything down. It’s hard to have a discussion when you have waste time establishing the facts first. [Post edited 7 May 21:18]

In my opinion, the line should be drawn at nurses, doctors, dentists, radiologists etc in the NHS and staff for care homes (the latter having a minimum income requirement) etc because they are jobs that have proved consistently hard to fill. We should be taking steps to make sure anyone working for Deliveroo or similar is qualified to work in the U.K. - if they aren’t then it’s no work whatsoever, if they are working for cash in the “black economy” then the companies whose wears they deliver get fined. If there’s no demand they’ll look elsewhere.

At present anyone with access to a deliveroo app or similar can work. Nobody has any idea who's actually delivering the food. It's easy to exploit. It's similar with Uber taxis, how many people actually check the driver is the actual one pictured on the app? Technically they're self employed so the company aren't liable. These are the grey areas that need to be sorted.

Well the ability to negotiate our own trade deals is a brexit benefit, it's just a shame that the government that "delivered brexit" was so utterly useless and filled with chancers that getting any benefit from brexit will take a lot longer than it should have. These deals are starting to add up and the India deal is starting of low but hopefully will yield bigger benefits in the years to come. It seems to be an inadvertent favour from Trump, he has pissed off so many countries they are also looking to help each other out now, free tarde just to piss Trump off. There is another brexit benefit, one for the school leavers, ther is a shortage of trades and so lots of room for those willing to work hard. My son has already signed up to college to do a course in Vehicle body repair where, with 5 years eperience you can earn 45-55k per year and even as an apprentice you can earn over 30k. People can call breit a disaster but with every disaster there come opportunities. [Post edited 8 May 17:12]
