Southend (H) 23:07 - May 7 with 4509 views | Shun | Has anybody seen this match advertised on any billboard or bus stop around town? I only ask as I travel around the whole of Rochdale regularly and I haven’t. I posted similar on Twitter, but why is this game not plastered every-bloody-where? Thousands of people drive past those animated billboards at St.Mary’s Gate every day (usually sat next to them in traffic). That’s just one of dozens of locations that get thousands of Rochdalian eyes on them daily. Why haven’t we got any advertisement up? It’s no use advertising on the official website or emailing season-ticket holders, we already know about it. Billboards, bus stops, even a great big banner on Sandy Lane right outside the ground. This is our biggest game in years yet the average Rochdalian has no idea about it. Edit: I in no way meant to detract from the positivity of the other thread or that wonderful video, but I do think this conversation needs to be had. [Post edited 7 May 23:17]

Southend (H) on 10:19 - May 8 with 3908 views | Dalenet | We don't know whether the club is using modern methods to communicate with people. I have had a fair few emails recently and I suspect they will also be emailing anybody that has bought a ticket this season - there are more than 5000 people who have 'popped in' to see a game at least once this season. The Man Utd game, the Spennymoor game, etc all attracted occasional fans.
Southend (H) on 14:06 - May 8 with 3635 views | R17ALE | Things like bill boards, bus stops etc are booked well in advance often by big companies buying multiple display sites. Artwork is usually agreed weeks in advance. The cost of this media is also very expensive. Whilst display advertising will always play a part, getting the match onto people's mobile devices is the key which is a science in itself.

Southend (H) on 15:07 - May 8 with 3512 views | Nerazzurri | I think the fact that whilst this is a massive game for us, for the casual observer it is essentially a quarter final. There's no Wembley place decided on this game which will reduce interest from casuals. Think we only got around 4,500 against Gillingham in our last play off home game in 2009 which was also on a Thursday night. Hope It's more but I think anything over 4,000 will be a decent effort.

I tend to agree, especially the point about it not being a trip-to-Wembley decider Also, it's only a few shorts weeks since the last extensive marketing effort led to "typical Dale" from less frequent attenders So, a chance to prove the occasional fan wrong on Thurs 15th and only by doing so will any crowd-building momentum start to happen

Hope its a better game than that Gillingham match. At least this one is guaranteed a result.

Would be more but it's an evening ko, and it's the best part of 250 miles each way to get to you. Undoubtedly, we will do our part on the atmosphere front. [Post edited 8 May 18:36]

Well researched link. Given that we've only had one red card all season, you feel the refs will be keen to give us one or more in the play offs. Balance and all that.

Hope you all enjoy the long trip up...should you win i just hope we don't see the scenes we saw after the Spennymoor defeat..i don't think the FA would tolerate this ..nor should they. Good luck to spennymoor today by the way!!!

Certainly a long old haul, but, whatever the result Southend are not an away following that looks for trouble, in fact we earned plaudits from the Fog on the Tyne pub when the lads helped them clear up the beer garden after the horde drank them dry! I would imagine the Old Bill will be prepared for any daftness.
Southend (H) on 08:11 - May 11 with 1347 views | NorthernDale | As of yesterday and accordingly to the Southend Forum, they have apparently sold over 1,050 tickets so far for the game and this may figure will potentially increase. My worry is when we have a good gate, we are usually rubbish.
Southend (H) on 08:47 - May 11 with 1286 views | Daley_Lama | 1000+ shrimpers would be a great effort on a school-night Thu 1/4 final. Hoping it’s an entertaining game. May the best team win.

Southend (H) on 12:22 - May 11 with 1020 views | Trev | 3k tickets sold at midday. You'd think that would be the bare minimum, really, and probably only accounts for regulars, semi-regulars and exiles. Perhaps we've burnt our bridges with the locals with this so closely following the Spennymoor non-event.

There's another 4 days left yet including match day for your folk to buy. By the looks of things we will bring around 1100+, maybe more, so it's going to be noisy. It's our manager's testimonial match on the Friday so we're due football overload I reckon. I seriously don't have a clue who is going to edge this. You finished higher, but we've found our form at just the right time. It may come down to who copes with the long break between games better.

I'm not sure a game today in baking hot conditions at Wembley would have been ideal preparation for Thursday's massive play off game. At least now we have absolutely no excuses regarding the result should we fail to proceed.

Or perhaps because the marketing for this match is non-existent.
