TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Southend United (Playoffs) on 11:45 - May 17 with 1079 views
As the dust settles and in the cold light of day did Southend get a massive slice of luck getting back into the game? We were looking quite comfortable at 3-1 and yes - substitution's were starting to be made but to head against the post and the rebound come right back to you to head into an empty net? You dont see that happen a lot.

I believe Southend should have been awarded a penalty in the second half? That's feedback from somebody who watched it on the television, i didn't see it myself. Hogans tackle apparently.

Yeah, it was crazy how it fell back to him like that. As we said at the time though, our defending was shocking. First header was too easy and then the lack of reaction from us after it hit the post.

I've seen lots of comments regarding us being 'comfortable' or having them 'on the ropes' at 3-1 and it just never felt like that to me. Some games you know they're put to bed with a 2 goal advantage but Southend had been having a go all night and it was far from over for me.
Also thought they should've had a penalty late on (and Hogan would've walked already being on a yellow) and our penalty was rather soft.

I've watched that back a few times now and although Hogan puts his leg in for the ball and misses it, their winger actually kicks Hogans leg rather than Hogan bringing him down. Seen them given though so you could argue we got away with one there. Likewise Gordon being touched - seen them not given too. Their 2nd though is quite unusual - I've been to an awful lot of games and cant recall any header rebounding back off the post back to the same player to head in again - that was my point about luck. Its all over now so just need to learn and put ourselves in these positions again and do better next time.

Thought the same about the overall game. Despite the problems we caused ourselves, if we’re being honest it was still an even game when we 3-1 and if anything we were quite lucky to be leading at half time with all the chances they had from crosses.
It was two teams going at it from the start which made for great watch.
In the absence of any match footage other than the goals and Southend's non penalty on the official footage this video is great. A lot of very good match footage and our pressure towards the end of 90 mins when we really could have won it but for some brilliant Southend defending.
