The blossoming of the Venables era. You could see the football was starting to get played beautifully. West Ham romped the old 2nd division that season with a plus 50 goal average and 13 points ahead of Notts County in 2nd. We took the piss that day, couldn’t live with us.
Rangers in the school end for a while as the loft was being rebuilt. I think Rangers fans protested and may have got things changed at some point. Wasn’t a great view by a long shot.
Another memory of standing in the school end was when we played Orient. Stanley was getting stick from some rangers fans. Did I stick up for him, I sure the hell did.

I was there for the Orient game. Stan dived and got Glenn Roeder sent off. “We’ve seen it all before.”

Was one of the first QPR games I can remember going to: was a big game as West Ham were top and I badgered my dear old Dad to get tickets but it was Boxing Day and we had relatives staying so I was told it wasn’t going to happen. On Christmas morning after all the presents had been opened my old man slipped me another Christmas card and inside were tickets for the game: think he was just as pleased as I was to have an excuse to get out the house! Seemed to be a huge crowd to a young kid like me and it was a brilliant 3-0 win: without checking in detail I think it was probably the best Boxing Day game I’ve seen.

My first ever game (or the first one I can actually remember)
West Ham had just won the FA Cup and as I was a young kid I decided I was a West Ham fan. God bless him, my uncle John then bought me the full kit for Christmas although that must have hurt. I turned up for this game with my dad and his two brothers in full West Ham kit while all his mates took the piss out of my dad for raising me wrong

You can tell that there were many West Ham fans in the middle of the loft as there aren’t many people celebrating as the 2nd half goals went in.I ended up over towards South Africa rd by the time the last goal went in.

Yes I was at that Orient game, standing on the School Lower. Clive Thomas was the ref. Think he sent one of our players off?

Not West Ham or Chelsea anyway.
Or Spurs and Arsenal.I was threatened by a gooner with a baseball bat in the home game in 76/77.The sneaky b@stards only came out at ko time so that the old bill couldn’t move them.

Some of these clips are great. They show some of the skills of Stan I had not seen before. They also show that the game was played at a fast pace back then in the 1970s.

My distinct memory of that West Ham Boxing Day game was that a steel band was playing in the front of the South Africa Road stand just above the Paddock seats. There were a few West Ham fans in the Paddock and some of the more neanderthal ones didn't take too kindly to it . We were between the two groups, I was only ten at the time. My dad spent the first ten minutes of the game briefing me and my sister re exit strategies if it all went off. Luckily it didn't
