What? The same BBC who so condescendingly mix the female results in with the men’s game on the assumption that both are equally important to most fans? Hmmmm.

The averages are inflated by the odd big attendance when they have pushed a big game.

Arsenal for instance have an Average attendance of 28,000, their highest attendance was when they played Spurs at the Emit=rats and 56,000 attended.

The 3 home games either side of this were against London City Lionesses, 2,483, West Ham 3,621 & Liverpool, 3,148.

The second highest attendance was Chelsea with 10,000, again boosted by a few high profile games at Stamford Bridge, when they played their home fixtures at Kingston, the lowest was 1,200 the highest just over 4,000.

Its the same throughout the league Everton had the worst average with 1,215, yet they are planning to play their games next season at Goodison Park with a notional capacity of 40,000

I have never watched a full woman's game, only highlights. But for me, the quality was seriously bad. Akin to watching under 12 boys teams. It is not entertaining.

Exactly!!

I'm not interested in the 'big clubs', but when I see a headline that says something like "x has signed for Arsenal from Chelsea", I'll click on it, then see it's women's football and close the browser.

I constantly feel I'm being tricked by the BBC into clicking on women's football articles? So they can then justify so much tax payer's money being spent on coverage for something the VAST majority of football fans have no interest in watching. Hey, look how clicks we had? Yeah, most of them stayed on the page for 4 seconds. FFS.

And stop with the ways tables are displayed, I want to see Prem and then the following 3 English divisions, not prem, women, scotland prem, championship. Fk off, keep the same groups together, in order, ARGH!

I have nothing against Women's football, but I'm not personally interested. But the mixing it in is silly - keep the score and stories apart, make it distinct.

Right rant over ...

Ironically Arsenal in the last hour or so have announced that they will play all their women's home games at the Emirates next season.

It will be interesting what crowds they get when all the games are played there and not just the big ones

As with Everton at Goodison Park.

Although can’t help thinking “FFP ruse” is in the mix here…..

According to the data Arsenal's average home attendance is about 30,000 so it's actually a good idea to play these games at the Emirates. It makes a lot of sense.

Everton OTOH have succumbed to woke madness. It can't make any financial sense at all to keep Goodison Park just for the ladies, who have an average attendance of about 2000.

Arsenals avearage is about 30,000 when they play at the Emirates, its about 3,000 when they play elsewhere, can they get 30k month in month out is the question

No that's wrong. Their average at the Emirates was 47,000 last season. They have sold the stadium out a few times. If they play the other games there then they will probably get much larger crowds for those games too. When they dont play at the Emirates they play at a tiny stadium in Borehamwood, which is miles away.

So last season they got 57,000 against Spurs but only 3,000 against West Ham. If they play these other games like the West Ham one at the Emirates then they will probably get much larger crowds for those games too.

I have no interest in attending these games but I see no point in pretending that Arsenal women haven't often had bigger crowds than Saints men, because those are the facts. Given their success it makes a lot of sense to move those other games to the Emirates too.

My mistake it was about 37,000, to show the difference Liverpool played in an FA Cup 1/4 final at Boreham Woods ground on 9th March the attendance was 3,000, two weeks later in the League at the emirates it was 35,000

Don’t they charge rock-bottom prices to get these big crowds in though?

I can’t see how it pays for itself.

Some of these women players are on surprisingly good money.

I bet they do charge rock bottom prices, but again that seems the right strategy. Even if you only charge a few quid, an average crowd of 47,000 will generate good revenue in tickets alone and will then spend on food and drinks plus the club shop. Give them a decent deal and they will come back regularly like all football fans. That's a much better idea than playing out in Borehamwood in a tiny stadium with no crowd.

I don't think the players earn that much. Google tells me that the average in the WSL (top level) is £47k per YEAR. The men's equivalent is £60k per WEEK. That means that the women make, on average just 1.5% of the men's income. On those numbers, Arsenal women should be able to turn a profit, but they are probably a long way ahead of the other teams.

BTW, the whole "they only do it for PSR" thing is a myth. The only way it would help PSR is if the women made a profit. If they make a loss that would be bad for PSR not good! The losses would reduce the loss that the club could make on the men's side unless they separate the men's and women's, in which case they the women's finances become irrelevant.

Chelsea pulled a trick by selling the women's team to a different part of itself. That meant that the part with the men's team could bank a one-off gain from the sale which they could offset against other losses for PSR. But they are now separate businesses so the women's finances have become irrelevant. If they keep going with the women's team it cannot be for PSR reasons.

Also don't forget even if a few thousand people turn up, you would have to ASSUME that a percentage of those are only there for the women (in whatever way you want to read that) and / or wouldn't have ever gone to a men's football match before.

So again, you can assume there will be additional merchandise sales, additional food/drink sales etc. It all adds up. Plus there are still TV rights.

It's not huge business, but some _additional_ income I would assume.

You may be right that the average is 37,000. I read it was 47k but you may be right at 37k, I don't know. Whichever way though, it's a big number and the example you give shows the potential of switching all their games to the Emirates.

It seems to me that anyone painting this as sexism is wrong. Personally I'm delighted that women /girls are getting to play in a serious structure. Their "product" however, is just inferior and I resent the BBC in particular trying to pass it off as being on a par with the men's game.

I'm quietly pleased if SFC ladies do well, but if any significant amount of my season ticket money is spent on them I'd be pissed off.

I pay to watch SFC men's team and that's ALL I care about.

And as for Khan naming a rail line after the England women? What a facking joke.
