Disappointing performance. Players not yet gelling in a new system and newish squad. After 8 years of Gareth ball that perhaps isnt surprising after just a few games. You can also see that Tuchal is trying a fewer players and systems out at this point testing what and who works and who isnt up to it.
On basis of the last few games he probably now has a better idea of players who will not be progressing to the world cup squad (felt Walker might now be one of those) and those who might. One bright spark I felt was Eze who did unlock the opposition in each game he played in and tonight he had a full match. Created a lot, did things that no other player could. Worries me a bit that we dont seem to have anyone else currently available to cover for Keen if he gets injured. Clear too that Tuchal really doesnt fancy Toney having had him in the squad for this set of fixtures he only got 7 minutes and didnt look great. Watkins, injuries allowing, has probably got in the world cup squad without playing. |  |

Agreed. The system (if there is one) is not good enough. In the first two thirds there is no invention, as a team. It sets a bad marker going forward and ultimately makes us toothless. Drop two good ball playing midfielders further back when we are playing it out and ticker tacker it out. |  | | |

There are few opinions that I’ll die on a hill for, but one of them is that Gareth Southgate pulled fcking miracles with this nation and was largely but not entirely pilloried for it.

Yes did think also, Eze was the only one that seemed to have an ability not to do the obvious tonight.

England have some fabulously talented players, we are lucky I guess to have them.
I only watched from 70 minutes but the last 20 minutes I'm watching England players mishitting short passes, trying and failing back heel passes etcetera etcetera.
One thing for sure the England players will be sat In the dressing room pissed off having been beaten at home.

Yeah also though it should have been Howe or Potter.
This does so far have a very Capello feel to it.. hopefully it will change, but Tuchel is known for his falling outs (generally with hierarchy admittedly rather than players), and the treatment of some players so far and the reaction of others does not bode well.
I do find it bizarre that we are the only "major" football nation which keeps hiring foreign managers... not seeing France, Italy, Spain, Germany or Netherlands doing that. Yet our best runs in competitions have come under English managers, even if some of them like Southgate have club records which could be called average at best.
In the end though, I guess around this time next year we'll find out if the Tuchel experiment worked or if the FA is facing a multi-million contract payoff. | | | |

It’s an end of season friendly. And prior game against bunch of no-hopers. The players want to be on holiday. Southgate got us relegated from the nations league losing twice to Hungary. You cannot make such an early judgment on the new guy. The only judgement is performance against big teams in big tournaments. Order is World Cup, Euros, Nations league and then friendlies. And I say all this when I think his decisions have at best been questionable! | | | |
