Chris Wilder on 14:24 - Jun 12 with 2166 views | swancity | Failed badly? Thats unfair and inaccurate. In Europes most competitive league they finished in 3rd place and only behind a very good Leeds team and Burnley who were almost impossible to score against. The play off system is a nonsense really. It gives a team who finish 20 points ( for example ) behind another club the chance to be promoted ahead of them. Can you imagine if Bristol City had gone up? Sheffield did well to finish in 3rd but it’s Sunderland who didn’t do as well who get the plaudits and promotion. It’s a funny old game …

They were in the driving seat when Leeds started to faulter. Then it all went wrong after they lost to Plymouth. He should have got them promoted.

I think there should be criteria in place that the 5th and 6th placed teams have to be within a range of points for them to get into a playoff with a team above them. Not necessarily easy to get right....but it's a fairer way to do it. Good post btw...

It’s should be top 3. No play offs.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

They’ll not scrap it now, it’s a huge money spinner. I do like the earlier suggestion of having to be within a certain amount of points of third place to qualify but there would be a whole load of issues attached to that undoubtedly.

It might well be a money spinner and it keeps the interest going for lots of clubs but it’s unfair. The purpose of a league table is to judge which are the best and worst teams throughout a season. Sheffield were the 3rd best team finishing with 90 points and 28 wins from their 46 games at 1.96 per game. That’s an excellent season albeit they were disappointed with their April form. They then wiped the floor with Bristol 6-0 over two games but missed out to Sunderland who finished a whopping 14 points behind them. Teams like Bristol Blackburn Swansea Sheff Weds weren’t good enough to get into the play offs / Premier league. But they could have ….thats simply a pile of bollox to use a technical term .

Top 2 up automatically, 3rd place automatically in play off final, 4th to 7th play off to find a winner to face 3rd place in the final. More matches, extra place up for grabs, more money.

Sheffield were 3rd, played in the final and lost. It shows the points difference in the regular season means nothing, leave everything as it is.
Chris Wilder on 21:26 - Jun 12 with 1612 views | GVJack | I like the playoffs as they are. It's wholly fair... Everyone knows the rules going into the season, it's not as though the goalposts change. Only two ways you can guarantee promotion... Finish 1st or 2nd. Otherwise you're in the draw and the team to win two fixtures (over 3 legs) gets promoted. Simples.

Indeed. If you can't finish third in a three horse race despite having a huge financial advantage then you've only got yourself to blame.

Chris Wilder on 23:03 - Jun 12 with 1508 views | ItchySphincter | The playoffs gives pretty much anyone in the top half the opportunity to get promoted with a few games to go. There’s no doubt that it adds interest, incentive and spice until the end of the season and saves us from seeing the same three teams go up and down every season. One of the football leagues better unfair ideas.

The problem with the system is that, apart from being completely unfair and not rewarding the best teams, it allows a club who are ill equipped to get into the biggest league in world football to do just that. As for allowing a club in 7th into the play offs that only makes it worse. Averaging only1.5 points a season shouldn’t enable a club to get anywhere near to promotion but that’s what’s happening unfortunately.

I don't think think any championship club in this day and age is equipped to maintain Premier League status, a lot of luck is needed. The three that went up last season all came back down. Sunderland beat Sheffield this season and as for being equipped for promotion I think there is little in it. Leave it as it is and have the excitement until the end, otherwise this season would have been over early in April.

The 6 teams promoted to the Prem over the last two season's have all been relegated, I'd be very surprised if the three who went up this last season stay up. If we went up next season we would be highly unlikely to stay up, 2011 is long gone todays Premier League is a totally different animal these days with the teams billionaire owners, look at Bournemouth for one example.

If you get promoted you've got to win your mini league with the other 2 promoted clubs and hope one or two existing clubs have a meltdown. Giving you a chance to consolidate.
Chris Wilder on 01:44 - Jun 15 with 622 views | Robbie | Premiership title race is a nailed on closed shop every season . The Foxes did play a blinder a few years ago , even caught that baddie Lineker off guard , Aim of any team getting into the Premiership is survival and putting on a good effort on the pitch whilst there . The big boys hold the cartel at the top .
