I've lost count of the number of players that we've signed under the ownership of SR that we've never seen at our club. All the time that we are owned by Sports Republic we will be a feeder club to lesser clubs owned by the group. We need owners that don't have split interests, we need owners that dedicate their time, effort & money to St Mary's.

I am not sure why some people get up in arms about Goztepe etc, we have signed an inexperienced youngster, ahead of him in the pecking order at time of speaking are several experienced central defenders as well as Ronnie Edwards and Sanda who has broken into the first team squad (No one will be complaining about Valenciennes if he siucceeds) So it is natural that we loan him out and what better place to loan him to is a top flight club in Europe. We are not feeding them, we are loaning them players to gain experience, if he goes to QPR in the Championship as Edwards did, no one moans, but if he goes to Goztepe then the usual suspects start spitting on the ground. As Block 8 says at this stage the future in the centre of defence is unclear, so that impacts down the line.

The point is Nick, instead of spending time effort & money on young potentially decent players to loan out, we should be bringing in some decent experienced players that immediately improve our 1st team squad.

As you say, the articles read poorly, but that is actually strong evidence that they're NOT written by AI. AI would not write like that unless it was specifically tuned to sound bad. I've read a number of articles on that site over the last year or so. Most as you say are guff so it's not a reliable source, just rumours, but inevitably some will be right because that's the way with rumours.

Arguably we could dramatically improve our first team squad by getting rid of players we already have! Players with potential are a financial stream down the line, which in the modern game a small club like us needs to even attempt to compete. Look at Brighton and Bournemouth buy cheap sell big and finance the more expensive player improvements. Something we used to be very good at but now the big boys are plundering our youth teams, so we have to look elsewhere. What worries me is we loan him out, & if the rumours are even close to being true, sign another untried youngster (Bah) from City? There's no financial gain for us there!

We don’t have a Premier League budget now though. We can ill afford to spunk £3.5 million on a player who MIGHT be half-decent in a year or two. That money would equate to a significant down payment on a half-decent striker in the Championship.

Exactly this. Worry about ones for the future when we are back established in the premiership. I would rather not sell tall Paul for 3 mill than sign a nipper that’s not going to be involved this season. All the focus should be on getting back up. Nothing else matters. Preferably by winning the title.

The purchase and development of young players within the SR group will be one of these strands probably with ring fenced finances and financial goals just like corporate hospitality, merchandise, sponsorship etc. It's a shame all of these players are presented oo the website as if they are first team options.

The thing is that it is about looking at a bigger picture, even for us in the Championship £3 million isn't a big fee, we have to look to sign promising players when we can get them cheaply, if we were linked with say Quarshie and had not signed him and he then became a decent player, then this message board and indeed social media would be full of frothing at the mouth rants slagging off the clubs recruitment system. They seemingly can't win. Tall Paul seems to have gained some sort of mythical status, way above his tally of just 4 goals should give him, given that for most of the games he did very little of note. Saints have 3 strikers still on their books at the moment who are all proven in the Championship, if two of them stay then we will be fine, we need to draw a line under Tall Paul, get some money in and more importantly get his wages off the books. Whether Quarsie will or won't be here next season is yet to be decided, so he could well be kept in the squad

So you're against Tall Paul because he "did very little of note". Whether that's true or not, it's hardly an argument in favour of our other strikers. Last season he probably did more than any of them and that's the most relevant guide because he was given his first proper chance last season. It's noticeable that the other clubs he's played for before want him back again, whereas I haven't seen any evidence of interest from other clubs in the rest of our strikers. I wonder why.

You seem to have a bit of an aversion to Tall Paul. Yet Ross Stewart after 2 years of being here, scores in a end of season kick about and hes treated like the new messiah! I along with quite a few others thought Tall Paul did alright given the opportunities. He gave the team an outlet and given a full season would of hit double figures. Tall Paul 25 games (1045 mins) 4 goals Archer 35 games (1433mins ) 2 goals Armstrong 20 games (1254mins) 2 goals (1 pen that he nearly cocked up) Ross Stewart 12 games ()385 mins) 1 goal I know who i would prefer up front next season

and the very forgettable Ben Brereton Diaz 13 games, no goals I think Ross Stewart may do ok next year when he plays, but we can't assume he'll be fit and available. We just have to treat any availability from him as a bonus and base our plans on those with a better fitness record.

I take your points Nick but we are now in our third season under SR and investment in the Saints squad has been appalling to date. We are at a point where we have nowhere near the budget we started with. Okay the model of buying a good young player and selling them on in theory is a good one but it only needs to fail for a short period to fail completely. We don't just need to spend on our squad to get promoted but we need to have enough to spend to keep us up if we get there and buying players and loaning them to sister clubs is not working for us. Over the last two seasons we've bought players and loaned them to Goztepe which enabled them to get promoted to the Turkish Premier League and get to within touch of European places. What have we had in return? Absolutely nothing so this is not benefiting our club only Goztepe and Vallenciennes It's less than 5 weeks until the opening day of the new season and to date we bought one player who may be loaned to Goztepe. Obviously a lot can happen between now and then but I'm just hoping that the club back Still and we don't spend money that we can't afford in bolstering Ankersen’s squad at Goztepe

I think Brereton might come good in the Championship. Did well for Blackburn if memory serves.

I'd disagree with you Nick on £3.5m not being a big fee in the Championship. Leeds and Burnley walked promotion. Leeds only bought 3 players over £3.5m. Of Burnley's 22 new arrivals at the club only 3 cost more than £3.5m Sunderland only bought one player over £3.5m as did Sheffield Utd and Coventry
