Is fantastic travelled up on it to Hereford on Friday and it's a magnificent feat of Engineering, all went well until I was 3.5miles just outside Hereford and it took me 20 minutes to travel those 3.5 miles
Just come back on A465 and it's a fantastic, spoilt by the 50mph restrictions by Brynmawr and Gilwern.

I to drove up to just outside Hereford on Friday and agree the 465 from Hirwaun was amazing, quiet and quick. Only spoilt by the Brynmawr 50 mph towards Abergavenny. My only hold up was just outside Monmouth down to one lane either side.

Yep it's a fantastic piece of engineering used it quite a few times to go as far as Ebbw Vale

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
Poll: Happy to see Martin go

Ever notice how shite the weather gets when you get to Merthyr from Abergavenny

That 50mph restriction on that section never made sense. Drakeford said it was because the road was new and drivers would not be used to it.

The latest two sections just opened are also new yet have 70 mph limits.

50mph on a modern dual carriageways is nonsense. The speed limit of part of the single carriageway it replaced use to be 60mph.

Be grateful the tw** hasn't lower it to 40. Anyone who travelled that section between Brynmawr and Gilwern at the bottom can only be in awe on how much that road has altered. Used to be based at Crickhowell for a short time and travelled back to Swansea most weekends so know the road well.

Damn, just read an article on the beeb. Didnt realise how climate cuckoo the govt of my country has got since I've been overseas.

I mean.

A Minister For Climate Change

A National Transport Plan (that says no more road building). OK. Why do we have a plan that says we are not going to do anything.

"future roads must pass strict criteria which means they must not increase carbon emissions, they must not increase the number of cars on the road, they must not lead to higher speeds"

Um, if its a new road then the very first car to use it increases emissions because there was no cars on that road before you built it

Again, the very first car to use it would increase the number of cars on the road

And if there were zero cars using a road that wasnt there that now is then the very first car to use it at 1mph would be an increase in speed.

And the Welsh Minister for Climate says

"We will not get to net zero unless we stop doing the same thing over and over," he said.

"None of this is easy but neither is the alternative."

To reach net zero by 2050, he said, the Welsh government must "be prepared to follow through".

So why dont you just make a law. Cars are banned.

'Again, the very first car to use it would increase the number of cars on the road'.

If they were to build a bypass for Llandeilo for example the first car to use the bypass would not be an extra car on the road, it would be just a car that is using the new road instead of the old one. The difference would be that they would be doing an uninterrupted 40/50 mph on the new road instead of crawling in 1st/2nd/3rd through Llandeilo creating far more emissions than when using the bypass.

You would have thought that one of the most obvious factors correlated with rising emissions would be rising population, and that population control should feature somewhere in the WG's plan. Actually however, some WG policies seem to actively promote increased population, for example the "Nation of sanctuary" plan.

Here is the blurb from co-pilot: "The Welsh Government declared in 2019 that Wales would become the world’s first ‘Nation of Sanctuary’. The ‘Nation of Sanctuary’ plan aims to help all people seeking sanctuary to integrate well with communities in Wales. The plan outlines the breadth of work which the Welsh Government is undertaking across Wales to ensure inequalities experienced by these communities are reduced, access to opportunities increased, and relations between these communities and wider society improved. The Nation of Sanctuary vision is about making Wales not just welcoming to migrants, but also harnessing the opportunities which migration brings to help the economy and communities to thrive."

It seems to me that the bit they never told us is that the future is no (or at best highly-restricted) private car ownership in a very different society from the one we have now, and this is a big step on that road.

You can see how Labour in Wales is finished. Incidentally Plaid supported many of the Labour objectives when they were proping them up.

Sorry but imo its not "incidentally" If it hadn't been for Plaid supporting Labour most of these insane policy's wouldn't have come into being and maybe the reaction we're seeing from Labour right now wouldn't have needed to occur.
If voters think the way forward is Plaid then they're in for a shock, they're just as divisive as any other political party with policy's as mad as any thing the others can dream up .

Net zero is a downright con, we're a little pimple on the world's arse and yet we are going all out to achieve something that cannot be changed, not without the bigger and massive Countries fall in line, which they obviously won't.

Labour and Plaid are cut from the same cloth. If they had their way private vehicle ownership would be curtailed (or taxed so highly it amounts to the same thing) and people would be forced to use public transport.

Leaving the roads much emptier for the Political class in their expenses funded cars.

This is another drum I've been banging, I 100% agree with you.

There is something else though, the number of cars on the road is always rising and even with no more roads built will continue to rise so their policy is doomed to fail because either way, more roads or not, cars will rise.
Without new roads though, the number of cars will mean more clogged roads and emissions will still rise as cars struggle to get to 20 let alone more.
We all know that the motorway gets so busy that you can't even get to 50 at peak periods.

I don't know what the answer is but I don't think it's to stop building new roads.

They're thick as mince in the Senedd, typified by Drakeford, 50mph on the M4 just after Llandarcy toTiabach, you go on that stretch at rush hour times and it's usually nose to tail, the drive to Net Zero see, daft bats don't seem to realise that all that congestion creates far more pollution than a 70mph speed limit, although I doubt it'll make any difference there though in fairness.

The 50mph limit through Port Talbot was ostensibly put in place to improve the air quality. As the limit has remained in place despite the closure of both Tata blast furnaces I think we can safely assume that this was a complete lie.

There's no reason why not to remove the average speed cameras on that stretch and put the limit back up to 70 but they won't unless forced to.

With the A48 between Briton Ferry bridge and the Beagle Brook having a higher speed limit and being alongside residential properties. More nonsense.

This was raised during a session in the Welsh talking shop where it was asked now that TATA has effectively closed was it being considered removing the 50 mph limit ,the answer not at the moment.

Actually Martyn i'd imagine most people on this site would know Llandeilo pretty well. It's a lovely place and we visit it a few times a year.

The point I was making about traffic wasn't about locals or others like us visiting, it was about all the traffic that HAS to pass through Llandeilo on the way from West Wales toward Llandovery/Brecon etc. The road through the town is so narrow and to see large lorries squeezing through there is ridiculous. They would all use a bypass if there was one and the reduction in emissions would be substantial

You're right about nothing getting done. I don't get the point that is often made that new roads create more traffic. To me it would be the same traffic just using the new road for efficiency.

More likely to put new ones in. 50mph limits around the outskirts of Cardiff and Swansea to follow probably.

I would say a bypass would have less emissions because there wouldn't be the low gears by large vehicles through the town centre. Getting vehicles out of a town centre has to benifit health and safety, Newtown is a prime example of the benifits.
