Plaid Cymru manifesto 17:53 - Jul 10 with 2203 viewsjohnlangy

I went to Sioned William's surgery today to make a suggestion to her about their manifesto for next year's Senedd election. The subject generally was about the completely unfair way in which the Senedd invests in Wales with Cardiff, as usual, having money lavished on it while the rest of Wales stagnates.

I talked, as one example, about investment rail infrastructure.

South East Wales Metro £1.2 billion and rising
The five Burns stations £300 million
1st stage of Cardiff Crossrail (tram) £100,million

Meanwhile -

Swansea and South West Wales metro Plans
North East Wales metro Plans
Everywhere else Plans

I suggested that Plaid include a policy in their manifesto stating that they would reverse the unfairness of the last 25 years and basically do a Boris Johnson - in other words levelling up.

She said that it this is something that Plaid completely agrees with.

So, I told her that whenever there is a thread on this site (and every other site I read) that talks about this subject everyone who responds is up in arms about the unfairness and are completely disillusioned with the way Labour have been so biased toward the South East for the last 25 years.

I suggested to her that there are very many people not only on this site but all around the ignored three quarters of Wales that would love to see a commitment in their manifesto to start to correct these wrongs. And knowing that the other main parties would never address this issue then those people could be persuaded to vote for Plaid.

I also said that if they were to win power next year the only way they would manage to get in for a second term would be if they actually do what they say they would do. A novel idea for a political party.

A number of you have said previously that you were seriously thinking about voting Plaid or actually going to vote Plaid next year

Let me know your thoughts and ideas which i'm going to make a point of passing on to her.

Apologies that i've rushed this a bit so the wording isn't the best.

This is my problem with Plaid, previously they have kept Labour in power with little change in policy. All of a sudden with Reform kicking seven bells out of Labour they fancy their chances. As I have said previously I am waiting for the manifestos and to see who the candidates are before I choose who I vote for. It could be Plaid, it could be Reform, it could be an independent but it won't be Labour or Conservative. Liberal or Greens are also very unlikely.

Just remember, Plaid Cymru's main objective is for Wales to become an independent country, if you are in favour, then vote Plaid.

If Plaid get in next year and actually run Wales in a way that sees an improvement in living standards throughout the whole of Wales, personally I think the opposition to independence will soften.

They need clear ground between themselves and labour. A clear and obvious difference. They're far too similar, even just pledging to reverse the 20 mph speed limit would be something but it was in their last manifesto. So they're a bit stuck.

Let's see 4 or 5 Labour implemented policies that they're going to reverse or at least significantly amend. There's plenty of terrible ones to choose from.

Similar to Westminster, we don't have an alternative in Wales really. I've never voted for Welsh Labour. But tactically I may vote plaid next time due to the new system

Exactly, that's a typical response you'd get from any party at one of their surgeries, that's how these people work by pulling the wool over people's eyes.

I could never vote for Plaid. People need to realise that voting for them when they don’t really believe in their major raison d’etre i.e. independence for Wales are going to give them more oxygen to push that agenda forward. I’d rather see Labour back in again and believe me, that’s saying something!!

Plaid are just Labour with the insanity dialled up and a little bit of insular bigotry stirred into the mix. The only less electable party currently operating in the UK at present are the Greens.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Plaid enteredt into an agreement and didn't have the power to demand very much. Labour hrld the cards and dealt as they saw fit.

If Plaid needed a coalition and it was Labour, the position is reversed.

I think what John says has legs and maybe more of us should visit our Plaod AM or the candidate and talk along the same lines.

Personally I would also say that if indy is declared to be a long term aim when the support is there then I wouldn't be bothered.

I can't vote Labour, Tory or Reform so it has to be Plaid. It'll be interesting when the manifesto comes out. I may actually bother reading.

Focussing on the “here and now” is a clever ploy. You know very well that once the membership shows sign I can’t growth then they’ll take that as a mandate to call for a referendum. It’s a con people, keep your eyes well open!

It’s important to vote S if not to vote a party in but to keep another away from a majority.

Honestly, are Plaid crazier than Reform? Are they going to be worse than Tory or Labour have been?

25 years of Labour so plenty of evidence there.

The tories, do I need to?

Reform, they are madder than the monster raving lot. They (well Farage) makes promises he knows he can't keep because Wales, the Senedd, we don't have the powers to do what he promises. Is anything madder than that?

Given all that, if you can't vote Plaid then who do you vote for?

I used to say vote for a local independent candidate but people kept saying that wouldn't work. Well if not the 4 party's listed and not an indy, then who?

Have you heard the Welsh Labour party first minister Eluned Morgan on facebook on how proud she is of what they have achieved she's either deluded or blind, it's incredible, another is calling for a 5 mile an hour speed limit in certain areas as well. You couldn't make it up honestly.

You are a Unionist and against any for of Welsh self rule. Using flags as your logo tells us this. This is why you are on this forum.

The trouble with such posters is when they combine it with second city syndrome and football anti Cardiff rhetoric I they can be just plain anti Welsh while living in Wales. At least the ex Copper throw his disdain from.over the river Dee.

Such posters become advocates for Welsh surrender and forcing people to travel Bristol airport for example and losing jobs around Barry where there is a great facility just looking for cash investment and expansion.
