Bit of a pedestrian first half with only a few half chances for us. Same for them but they have had the best chance when they missed a sitter of a header from about 3 yards out. In general we are trying to go forward, but default to the back passing a little too often for my liking. They have a tricky left winger and their defenders are keeping our front 2 under control quite easily. Need to step it up second half

0-0

Hope that we were playing within ourselves as an improvement is needed in the second half. A bit more hunger and courage needed.

C'mon Dale.

answered perfectly. 40 yard forward pass to start the move. Rodney holds it up well & a pass across the box back-heeled in by ManiD. Great goal

EDIT: 2-0. ManiD again although had a big deflection. Who cares !!

Good win. Even first half, Dale maybe went direct a bit too much at times but we were the only ones troubling the goalkeeper. They caused us some problems between wing back and central defenders.

Two quality strikes from a no.9 who was an outlet all day and then some good defending to get a clean sheet. The subs proved how much quality we have in the squad with all doing well, especially Allarakhia who could be a real threat late in games when replacing Pritchard as the opposition tire. All the replacements were made at the right time and it helped ensure we took home the points.

It’s only Day 1 but I think we’ve already seen how pressure and change may affect the two teams that finished above us last season, whereas we appear to have only added to a good base.

Well that turned out ok in the end. Have enjoyed my 2 trips to Bwood, aid today by a bar being installed for away fans. It’s a nice club, but a shame they are so poorly supported. Fairly low key start to the game, but we asked more questions as it progressed. We deserved the lead and still looked capable through the second half. Last time at there place we went 1 up and they then ran us ragged. While sure they had some good periods when they started chasing it, they were unable to dominate like they did before. So that’s progress. Mani D has lots of elements to his game and is no one trick target man pony.
Liked that we were able to take Rodders and East off without looking a lesser team for it. Have not always been able to say that in the past. Positive signs. So in midfield Edwards Burger and Humbles lost out today and that is without McBride and Mancini being fit. Jim will have a job keeping a harmonise camp. Can se some loans happing fairly soon.
Still lots to work on but happy with that today.

Excellent turnout in Ratcliffe's today. Hope the club made a few quid.
As said, poor first half, way too much time wasted playing boring Jimball when not under much threat.
Great start to the second half, reasonable substitutions, and a post stopped it being 1-2 when we got sucked in to defending.
When we had both our big lads up front (hallelujah, we have them!) we failed to provide adequate service to them to make it 0-3 or 0-4. A lesson to be learned.
3 points in the boot trumps all today.

Good result, but feel we need to make more of the possession we had. A better team will press and put us under pressure when fannying around at the back for so long.

Agree with a lot of that, first half was a disappointment, a none event which we fully contributed to.Just like watching some of the stuff from last season, nothing happening and we let the game drift instead of getting hold of it. Second half was better, Mani proved the difference. Our failure to get out to the wide players quickly enough and stop the crosses was again evident and that needs looking at. There needs to be a big improvement on yesterday because for periods of the first half and the last twenty minutes of the game we were second best, fortunate not to concede.Against the better teams we will. It's the first game though so a excellent three points. Without Mani it would have probably finished 0-0 . We also need to create more chances than we did yesterday. I thought EEL, Barlow had good games, Mani was the class player on the pitch though. A good result and a base on which to build on, plenty more to come, the level needs to be higher and ww need 90 minute performances this season. Eleven new signings means improvement should be expected.

Worth mentioning as a specific moment from yesterday.

The block by EEls was everything you would want from a CH and Captain. Lead by example ✅

I think if we'd had Mitchell up top yesterday it would have ended 0-0.

It's the sort of game of which we dropped points regularly last season and I am happy to see yesterday's increased clinicality as a marked improvement.

Yes I think we can do better to stop chances but if we continue to be that deadly it won't matter.

I think Mani has the potential to be one of the best players in this division and arguably the one above, looking an excellent signing and upgrade.

100% upgrade wearing the number 9 shirt.

Really encouraging start there looks to be a lot to like about this team / squad.

Up the Dale.. The games come thick and fast now we are up and running.

Not the easiest of games to open up with so to start the season with the away win and a clean sheet is really encouraging.

Was this the guy barking out instructions for 90mins above the DAZN commentary? Some choice language with it. May have been other staff at BW?

Agree with him, their no7 Di Sousa was running the show and had a great game, a match indeed for our lad Gilmour who was everywhere. Boreham Wood were a far better side than I expected and never gave up. Perhaps the quality has risen in this League?

Pleased for our young GK to get a clean sheet.

Most games I saw last season and this one give the false impression there is no space on the pitch, but truth is we engineer those situations. Yesterday I said to my nephew at this rate Whatmuff will have possession in the centre circle, and he got within 10 feet of it at one stage. Why condense the space like that, I just don’t get it. Also felt sorry for TAR he was always showing for the ball but was virtually ignore until we were already 2 up.
My first impression of Tutonda was positive. He has more pace than Beckwith and liked a battle. No worries in that area.
Good to hear Jason Taylor excerising his vocal cords when it was needed.
Also like that Dev and Mani have different strengths, one who likes the ball in front of him to run onto and the other very good at receiving with his back to goal but still finding space to work in. Will we make the most of our assets? I am not convinced. But not prepared to make judgement after just one game.

The first goal was a direct ball for the back for Rodney to run onto which then opened up space for Beckwith to exploit after a really good pass by Pritchard. One of the reasons space is condensed the way we play out is to enable there to be more room to exploit when there’s a direct ball into the forwards.

The second goal was passing the ball in the last third before going into Dieseruvwe’s feet so he could shift it and shoot.

We have options in the way we choose to play, and we are utilising them. It won’t always be perfect, but that’s down to form and accepting individuals won’t always get it right. However, it’s obvious the players are given the opportunity to choose how they look to get through opposition defences. Yesterday it worked.

Dev did a great job holding the ball for the second goal. There was no other Dale player in sight when he started his run.
Really am perplexed by your comment about condensing space to create more room. Your right we do have options like TAR and Pritchard and of course playing to the two forward’s strengths. Hopefully we won’t play many sides that sit off us so much as these did, inviting us to move up the field so freely. Think they sucked us into that sort of style because it suited them when they weren’t in possession. Think Alty will be different and that will help us to adopt more balanced tactics. Getting the mix right is Jim’s job. Early days mind.

The idea is to bring more opposition players nearer the ball, then going into a striker or even in behind the defence for someone to run onto. The space is further up the pitch.

It’s an alternative to playing through midfield and more direct. We did if effectively with Bird last season and Dieseruvwe at times yesterday.

Only issue was the opposition showed no interest in pressing. Of course playing to be the press creates space and as I said not all team will do that and we will have opportunities to beat the press. with the risk that brings, but we will try that no doubt as one of our options
