What we’ve seen in pre-season and in game 1 has made us just a bit negative not just the results but the performances too as they were reminiscent of pre Sheehan days. I did say on here a while back that we need to manage our expectations. We tend to get too excited, too early sometimes and it results in this almost instant attack on the club, team, manager etc. Not everyone of course but in some ways I’ve not heeded my own advice here. I’m back on my feet now though so let’s see what the opening 10-12 games produce.

Therefore by the same token we should be offering Sheehan an extension to his contract if we win tomorrow and Saturday. Have a bit of patience everyone, by all means criticise if we are poor after 8-10 games but one away game which we lost by one goal, get a grip.

Yes, though of course neither a contract extension nor the boot is going to happen.

How dare you come on here and show some sense… we’re not the completed article yet by some way, there’s a lot to come from this squad and the players coming in. I’m expecting to take something out of more games than nothing this season

A tough fixture as well. There is a lot of knee jerk reaction after 1 game. As you say lets wait till 8-10 games in.

Some of the overreaction after 1 game is amazing let's at least wait till the window closes and we have played 10 games before reaching for any definitive way our season is going to go

Recruitment was early for a change but largely on players untested at Championship level. People getting excited by YouTube videos. For me, we haven’t replaced Grimes, Allen or O’Brien. We still need a back up left wing back & a decent striker. It may take some people 10 games to make their mind up, some can see it earlier. Just now it does not look anywhere near good enough despite the coach having a full pre-season with most of the squad. Tick tock. [Post edited 11 Aug 18:08]

I am still wondering if Connor Roberts is available for a loan, I can't see him starting with Kyle Walker there.

Dead right Mr Eagle We would have loved Kone More blind shite about him not being any good recently We signed Jerry Hayrs ffs and made a loss Fans are concerned We're seeing the usual bizarre " positive" all knowing gang ripping into any dissenting posters We have been promised new signings, exciting ones too Here's two we failed to attract

Can’t see Conor getting any game time as a starter if Walker is fit & playing. He’d be a decent loan signing, but a lower priority than a seasoned midfielder, decent striker or a left footed wing back option imo. We really need to be bringing on some of the academy lads in positions where we need back up or what’s the point …

I posted in the other thread I don't think Kone is worth anywhere near £5 million 2 years in league 1 football Vipontik get stick on here but he was free My opinion but I certainly wouldn't have loved Kone here at that price

I think most people were looking forward to the season until we actually saw the team play - both in pre season & Boro. We have struggled to create or score goals throughout pre season & we were second best in just about every stat or aspect of the game on Saturday. Unlike many, I feel that there is normally a correlation between what you see in pre season relates directly to what you see in the league matches. I saw nothing to get me excited in the pre-season matches. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. We have shipped out many more players than we have brought in. The squad is wafer thin & lacking in quality & experience. If we can get 2 or 3 decent players in then that may change. Failure to do so will result in another desperate season languishing in the bottom half looking down the table.

I would agree. It all looked so promising until they kicked a ball. You know it's not going to be a great season when we start with Fulton in midfield. The Brighton lad woukd have been ideal but seemingly he isn't coming. There is still time but the signings have dried up and the matches have started.

Agree about pre season. Results don’t matter, but you want to see players gelling as a unit and combinations starting to come together. There was very little of that and it carried on into Saturday. Even if we do set up for a draw, we have to have a plan B in case the opposition do score and sit back. Long balls to Cullen will never be it. I do actually think though, that Inoussa will make a big difference when he’s fit and firing. We haven’t had a winger that drives at and beats players for a long time. I think he’ll open the gaps we’ve struggled with over the last few years. Maybe Widdell too if he’s played centrally.

That's just nonsense too though, i'm not in the positive all knowing gang, I say it as I see it and yes the game was poor and all of us who travelled hoped for much better. The bog difference is we're not all getting ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater after just ONE league game. We had a rubbish start under Molby and made the play off final, we lost our first away game to Hull the season we got promoted to the EPl didn't we? One poor game doesn't define the whole season. Gawd, lasyt season people were clamouring to give Sheehan the job full time because he did so well and now some of those people seem ready to sack him after ONE league game. It's absolutely NOT bizarre to say give it 10 games then see where we are. What are the other choices, sack Sheehan now and then what? We're still looking to bring 2 players in AND get other players to full fitness. It's bizarre to me that people are already having a meltdown.

Throw in the injuries we have in central defence.

Anyone calling for Sheehan to be sacked after a poor pre season and one league game is off their chops. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling out that performance, but I agree with you about ten games. I think we’ll be ok long before that subject to one or two signings and the injuries clearing up.

I don’t see many having a meltdown. All I am saying is that we are short on qualiity & quantity. There is ample evidence in pre-season and Boro to support that. We have lost some experienced players from the squad that need replacing. If we don’t bring in some quality & experience we are going to struggle. That is my opinion not a meltdown. Other opinions & viewpoints are equally valid.

We signed Yates from league 1 who scored just as many goals as Kone and look how that ended up I certainly don't see Kone as a 20 goal a season in the Championship Time will tell
