Court rules asylum seekers must be moved from hotel ... 17:06 - Aug 19 with 773 viewstheloneranger

"Asylum seekers are due to be removed from an Essex hotel after a council was granted a temporary High Court injunction blocking them from being housed there."

"The injunction was sought by Epping Forest District Council to stop migrants being placed at The Bell Hotel in Epping, which is owned by Somani Hotels Limited."

"Mr Justice Eyre made his judgement after refusing an 11th-hour effort from Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to get the council's case dismissed."

"Substantially Impact" it's ability to house asylum seekers in hotels across the UK

Translates to why dont you just be good weak British people and put up with it!

What a statement because of YOU not agreeing with Illegal imagrants living amongst you, we now have to move these Illegal imagrants and dump them somewhere else where more UK citizens dont want them.

This could be a very significant judgment if other cases are brought and go the same way. It may of course be overturned on appeal, but it has put the cat among the pigeons for now. What will happen if there is a conflict between the government 's duty to meet its treaty obligations (according to its current interpretation of what these are) and the right of UK citizens not to have their lives affected by changes in the use of hotels that have not been approved?

With COVID we saw accomodation knocked up in no time. Millions spend with facilities in place with in weeks with thousands of new beds.

.UK needs to provide the minimum requirement food shelter washing facilities. Out is town camps with people given a date for assessment. HM Government is concerned by the optics.

From what I can see people are not assessed physically mentally and politically at all. Qualified educated family people go to hotels. Jack the lad chancers religious fanatics criminals stay in the camp.

The Labour manifesto.

Labour will stop the chaos and go after the criminal gangs who trade in driving this crisis. We will create a new Border Security Command, with hundreds of new investigators, intelligence officers, and cross-border police officers. This will be funded by ending the wasteful Migration and Economic Development partnership with Rwanda. This new Command will work internationally and be supported by new counter-terrorism style powers, to pursue, disrupt, and arrest those responsible for the vile trade. We will seek a new security agreement with the EU to ensure access to real-time intelligence and enable our policing teams to lead joint investigations with their European counterparts.

Labour will turn the page and restore order to the asylum system so that it operates swiftly, firmly, and fairly; and the rules are properly enforced. We will hire additional caseworkers to clear the Conservatives’ backlog and end asylum hotels, saving the taxpayer billions of pounds.

Labour will set up a new returns and enforcement unit, with an additional 1,000 staff, to fast-track removals to safe countries for people who do not have the right to stay here. We will negotiate additional returns arrangements to speed up returns and increase the number of safe countries that failed asylum seekers can swiftly be sent back to. And we will also act upstream, working with international partners to address the humanitarian crises which lead people to flee their homes, and to strengthen support for refugees in their home region.

They've started pretty much all of that. It'll take years to work.

Plus of course the asylum hotel contract was initiated by the Tories, has 4 years to run and has seen the bosses of the companies involved make the Sunday times rich list.

We are not going to solve the World's problems, how on earth are we going to sort out Sudan or the Taliban in Afghanistan? Countries have tried to intervene in Afghanistan for centuries and have never succeeded.

The irony here is the Starmer spent years using the court process to defend the right of sone pretty unsavoury characters to stay in this country.

It doesn’t say we will.

It’s all about managing immigration. A quick search shows they’ve started all those manifesto promises.

1. Create a new Border Security Command:

This policy has been started. The new Labour government established the Border Security Command in July 2024.

The command has a leader, Border Security Commander Martin Hewitt, and it has already begun to coordinate with various agencies, including Border Force, the National Crime Agency, and the police.

The government has introduced the "Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill" which puts the command on a statutory footing, and gives it new powers to combat organized immigration crime.

2. Fund the Border Security Command by ending the Rwanda partnership:

This has been completed. The Labour government ended the Migration and Economic Development partnership with Rwanda and is redirecting the funds to the new Border Security Command.

3. Hire additional caseworkers to clear the backlog and end asylum hotels:

This has been started. The government has transferred staff and resources from the failed Rwanda scheme to work on asylum and enforcement.

The government has also restarted the processing of asylum applications that were previously stalled by the Illegal Migration Act 2023.

While the asylum backlog has declined, it still remains large and a new appeals backlog has grown.

The number of caseworkers had previously been increased by the former government but saw a slight dip. The new government has committed to hiring more.

4. Set up a new returns and enforcement unit with an additional 1,000 staff:

This has been started. The government has established a new returns and enforcement unit.

The Home Secretary has stated that this unit will be staffed with an additional 1,000 personnel.

Official data indicates a "massive surge" in returns, with over 24,000 individuals with no right to be in the UK returned in the first nine months of the new government, representing the highest return rate in eight years.

5. Negotiate additional returns agreements and work with international partners:

This has been started. The government has already signed new bilateral agreements with countries including France, Germany, Iraq, and Italy to disrupt smuggling networks and accelerate removals.

A long way to go but a hell of a lot more than their predecessors.

We get fed nonsense, the 24,000 have been returned is a misrepresentation, where people who leave of their own accord are included. The Government only know they have left after the Government have checked their visa status with immigration. The Government have not returned them they have left on their own accord.
The record numbers coming in are apparently down in part to the good weather according to the Government, I'm sure people from places like Afghanistan travel across thousands of miles and say, it's too windy today so let's not bother, I rather think they would wait for better weather.
When they stop feeding me nonsense and the numbers come down I might start to believe them.

As I said, it’s a start. A small one but the right direction.

I agree with you on the 24,000 figure but it’s still better than it was.

Misdirection is everywhere. We’ve so many celebrating the hotel news with no idea where they are going or for what cost.

LLanelli Stradey Park showed how public opinion is mounting regarding against illegal immigrants on their doorstep , well done to them and Epping Hotel protesters .

The Labour luvvies will now announce shock and horror remarks on this eviction as usual .

I am even more shocked a High Court Ruling has come down on the side of the baddies as Labour will now state , pat on the back for a sensible judgement for once .

Sure Gary Linekear has a few spare rooms in his mansion they can all get their heads down after being booted out of their comfort zone .

It will be very interesting to see how things play out legally. Domestic UK law in areas such as planning law generally provides mechanisms that take account of the views of local communities or the public in general, whereas "international law" in the shape of our treaty obligations seems to have been implemented in a way that largely bypasses public opinion. It will be revealing to see what happens in the courts when the two are in opposition.

The numbers aren't going to drop because this Government, just like the last one, for whichever reasons people want to believe, are of the opinion that mass migration is necessary.

That it is, far from solving any perceived problem, making things considerably worse in the UK and driving the native population to a boiling point, still passes them by.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
