Saito goal on 18:30 - Aug 31 by aston_hoop | I'm Saito's biggest fan but tell me I am not going mad here, he just didn't get good contact on that shot and that dug it into the ground and bounced it up? He surely didn't mean that, couldn't have done. |
To be fair to him, he'd have had to be a genius to bounce it up over the ankle of the oppo player but under his thigh. Nice pace and direction on it, and a lovely run but he hit it into the ground and I can't see that being deliberate.

I think you have to give credit to Burrell and Kolli though who made runs to create the space for him and occupy their defenders

Go look up the Ozil bounce. I like to think it was intentional, amazing either way

But it wasn't a 'free run' - he was squared up by a central defender - Saito used body swerve and jink and feint to go past him Watch it again.

I don't see why not. People have soured on Chair which is weird to me. At full strength my frontline would be: Kone Saito Chair Poku

Agree with that formation…especially if they’re able/allowed to rotate off of each other. Saito yesterday was everywhere and I would love to see more of that…all 3 of those players can do that…the trick is doing it in a disciplined way. Total football returns to the Bush after 50 years (here’s hoping!)

I thought that when he his it , watch the replay and he hits it into the ground which takes if over the defenders leg ,not sure if he meant to but or not

I love Chair and he seemed to single handedly keep us going at times. But he does hamper us playing it quickly as he just has to take that extra touch or go back the way he came just once more. Also he insists on taking every dead ball even when he's having a bad day and hitting the first man every time. I wonder if we play him against teams that give you more space where he really comes into his own and have Vale for those matches where you need to move the ball quickly to beat the high press? Just a thought and it's nice to have options.

There's fair criticism but I've seen people write Chair off completely which is so harsh after his service over the years. I'd hope he benefits from having other creative players around him so he doesn't feel he has to take the entire burden. Saito Chair Poku, all rotating positions, just sounds so good to me. I hope we get to see it at least once

Yes that's fair. Certainly don't write him off!

100%. Chair offers a bit more physicality as well.
