Saito goal on 19:03 - Aug 30 by soops | What a cracking pair (oo-er missus) to have around the team/squad. Smyth really humble in bigging up Saito |
Tell you what, Smyth comes over really well in that. We all know he's limited, and also that he always puts in a shift. What you see there is how he can help with team spirit. You get the impression that it's not just the fans who are glad to see Saito back.
Saito goal on 22:09 - Aug 30 with 2144 views | gazza1 | The boy done good but defensively it was real poor from Charlton. Overall he did a good 20 miuntes....fair play to him. [Post edited 30 Aug 22:37]

I think it will help him not being the only player with pace. Harder to double up on him when you've other players who can run at the defence.

Saito goal on 17:24 - Aug 30 by WestbourneR | Fair dues for that Wilkins. Not often someone comes on here and owns a past opinion. I doubt a few of the others (they know who they are) will do the same. The thing that makes Saito potentially a bit special is he is genuinely two footed - as his goal showed - and it’s a really rare and special skill at this level. He’s has some real quality that others don’t have and in combination with his incredible attitude (he doesn’t seem to get nervous or despondent) and work rate and tactical discipline, I think he’s a real asset. |
He changed the game when he came on and I honestly didn't think he had that about him. Happy to be proven wrong. I wouldn't have paid nearly £3m for him but if he ends up being one of the best players in the league and we sell him for a big profit I'll be even happier to be wrong.
Saito goal on 00:09 - Aug 31 with 1786 views | stainrods_elbow | Smythy scored our opener, and, without being outstanding, worked as hard as he always does and helped lead the line/press to commendable effect in that first half - by contrast with Dembele, who once again disappointed and fluffed his lines badly in front of goal. I hope we hang onto the little fellah and find every possible way to use (not abuse) him this season. [Post edited 31 Aug 0:10]

Saito goal on 16:32 - Aug 30 by M40R | Big deflection but deserved the luck for such a grest run. |
Not sure it was a big deflection actually. It passed through some players legs and bobbled a bit but it didn’t actually change direction. He aimed it into that corner with his left peg.

Talking of that pace, having watched his goal back a few times and pausing it along the way I was impressed with how quickly Burrell, Kone and kolli were on their bikes once Koki accelerated out of the centre circle and kept the Charlton back line occupied with a 4 on 4 threat that allowed Koki to get in to their box unchallenged. More of that kind of stuff please Rangers

GroveR! Another doubter who has seen the light. What I don’t get is how so few saw the qualities and skills he possessed last season. He’s a top player. I expect him to make us a very large profit. He’s each an £8 million player in the making

This. Charlton defenders tried to block it, but it was so accurate that despite getting something on it, as he hit so hard, it still went in, and he was aiming for the corner. If, they had not, it would have whizzed it much harder than it did and would have been even better.

A ‘this’ reply to the wrong post - but basically we agree, it didn’t take a ‘big deflection’ Weird how some people still want to do him down. Very odd.

Esquerdinha. Campbell had got the ball caught under his feet and Esquerdinha nipped in and flicked the ball into Saito's path just inside our half.

After grumbling about it a bit I think this RND/Esquerdina combo could actually work out well. Will be useful to have the Brazilian learn from someone with that sort of game too.

I wanted him signed all summer and was so glad he came back for the reasons you have stated about his ability. I don’t necessarily see him as a left winger or even a right winger. He can play a role in the middle too, as he showed with his goal. Along with Koke, I thought they both had good games and have added much needed strengths to the team.

That clip shows it as an even better goal with a really clever chip over the defender's leg than what I thought originally from QPR+, a great goal but with a deflected shot. Not deflected at all apparently.
Saito goal on 17:30 - Aug 31 with 935 views | Loft1979 | And exactly on that note, I like Saito to fill that role in the middle behind the strikers. He is less apt to be muscled off the ball ( #Dembele) and hasty speed and footwork to make tings happen. He is also very improved defensively. And in this role he can (ala Ilias) drift on to the wings. I think such move will also transform the entire front line.
Saito goal on 17:52 - Aug 31 with 825 views | QPunkR | Even apart from the goal, the bloke was everywhere! Kept popping up on either wing or the middle and Charlton had no idea how to handle him. So pleased for the little guy that he burst straight back onto the scene like that
