So the transfer window slams shut and we will know (barring international injuries) what the manager’s strongest team is a week Sunday v Portsmouth.
I wish him all the best and hope he is the manager for a long time to come.
Not that I rate him highly it’s just if he’s sacked at any point the league table would look bad.

Sport Republic have installed him as manager so there’s nothing do except support the team each game wether that’s in the ground or watching on TV.

Good luck Will.

WE MARCH ON

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

He’ll get the sack if the league table looks bad.

Losing games = down the bottom.
Winning games = up the top.

If he wins games he won’t be sacked.

Or do a Rueben Selles at Sheffield United.

Apart from the lack of a quality keeper, centre-half and striker, he has the strongest squad in the League.

Football is about opinions but I would point out

1. Gavin Bazunu was the keeper for the bulk of our last promotion season and for the 23 game unbeaten league run in which we let in less goals than anyone else in that period.

2. Taylor Harwood-Bellis was the centre half that season and is here for this, the trick is who plays beside him.

3. Adam Armstrong was the divisions second highest scorer that promotion season and the leagues highest assists, again play him with the right striker up front and he can score goals.

When I speak to fans of other clubs they think we have a strong squad, it is all going to be about how well it is managed and that is down to Will Still, now he has wingers in the squad we may see a return to a back four

Another reminder of the facts of this celebrated unbeaten run….

And just to show that stats can be used to push any narrative.....

We won 16 out of those 22 unbeaten games.

We lost to Bristol City at the end of the run.

We lost each of the 4 games before the run started.

Therefore we took 54 points from a run of 27 League games, exactly 2 points per game.

Leicester won the League with 97 points and Ipswich were second on 96.

Both more than 2 points per game.

I think it's time everybody stopped harping on about how wonderful the unbeaten run was.

It wasn't even top 2 form when considered alongside the games we lost either side of it.

Yep, and as Southamptonfan points out under a separate article Sports Republic have banked £72 million in the process, apparently not including parachute payments.

Their prerogative of course, which to me appears to indicate that promotion isn’t very high on the agenda.

Although we scraped promotion, it wasn't a great season. We finished 9 points off the automatic promotion places. What let us down was our poor defensive record, caused by our terrible goalkeepers, Bazunu and McCarthy, and weak defence. We conceded 22 goals more than Leicester, and even relegated Birmingham only conceded 2 more goals than we did.

And after that we only won 1 more game to the end of the season.

We were found out by the rest of the league and they knew as long as they pressed us we would concede goals.

We probably all knew that we were going to struggle playing in the Prem with Martin and his tactics but having got us promoted we kind of had to give him a chance.

I'm not sure about Still yet but lets see what happens.

We did have more points at this time that season but then followed it up with 4 straight loses so if we have more than 10 points after the first 8 games we will have had a better start to the season than the previous one.

The club have invested heavily in the squad , arguably more so than was invested under Martin in the summer transfer windows.

Martin had implemented his playing style in the 1st game at Sheffield Wednesday. Despite being appointed even earlier than Martin I’m still not sure what Stills style is .

There is no excuses now , results need to vastly improve if we are to challenge for the play offs ,the squad has had additions with experience players that I assume Still agreed with .

To get to 6 th place we need around 74 points or so . Just over 1.6 points a game rather than the 1.25 points we currently have .

Time for Still to start performing if we have ambitions of a play off sport .

Yes it’s early days but assume most fans would have expected more than 5 points from
The 4 games we’ve played .

I think you need some clean sheets.
We’ll score plenty with our new wingers and play maker supplying Archer, Downes or Stewart.

totally agree here
No point sayin it takes til game ten for things to settle in, by then we could be well adrift
We need to see 4 or 5 wins from teh next 6 games and he has two weeks with a settled squad now bar those away with nationals

Think you've hit the nail on the head regarding who plays alongside THB.
I'm not convinced about him & think that he was carried by Bedders when they played together.
We don't have a Bedders to cover for THB anymore & in the early games we've had it shows because THB has looked very poor.

I rate THB higher than most Saints fans seem to. He missed the summer with injury so didn't have a proper pre-season which will have affected his sharpness. I'm glad we've kept him. As I've said before I'd like to see a partnership of THB and Wood given a chance with a run in the side.
