Players out of contract. 08:32 - Sep 3 with 1257 viewsSonicBoom

Saw this today. Interesting read about those players desperately hoping to get a club. The less glamorous side of football.
Odd to see some of the names on the list such as Angus Gunn. I didn't realise he'd been released and spent the summer looking a home and playing at this PFA camp to keep fit. .

The article is a little out of date, Gunn Joined Nottingham Forest on 6th August, shortly after receiving a mandatory payment from his former club Norwich for not having signed for another club by 1st August says cynical me

It's the flip side of the Bosman ruling.

Players wanted to be able to leave at the end of their contract without any transfer fee being payable.

But in reality it's only the good out-of-contract players who will be snapped up.

Those players who aren't as good find themselves a lot less in demand than they would have been pre-Bosman.

Josh Brownhill still available on a free?
Can play in several positions & 18 goals for Burnley last season. Could be worth a punt but at 29 probably doesn't fit our signing criteria.

If I remember right, we looked at buying Josh Brownhill from Burnley a couple of years ago.
He'd have cost us a few bob then so as others have said could be a useful squad player for us on a freebie.

I thought he was heading for the Saudi mega-bucks.

Well, Brownhill has allegedly turned down a £100k p/w offer from Leicester City so it seems likely that going to the Saudi League is his plan. The Saudi window is still open for a while so if their window behaves the same way as ours he probably won’t move until the last day it is open.

I read he was holding out for a PL club but only Wolves showed any interest. They didn't follow up on it, which is why he's still available. Saudi seems the most likely.

Josh Brownhill signing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, and chose them because he was impressed by their project !

Has anyone ever signed for one of these Saudi clubs and said,' I am only here for the money ? '

Impressed by their project my ar@e! I suppose it’s the same as when Pelle went to China and became one of the best paid players around at that moment in time. We just can’t compete, but what a waste of a good player that could have done a decent job for us this season. As you say, why can’t they just be up front about it and admit that they are going for the money? coming out with bollox about ‘the project’ just makes JB look like an ar@e. Also, unless he stays away until the entire tax year after his contract finished doesn’t he get clobbered for UK tax on his return? Still, I suppose if you have quite a few million spare you can afford an extended holiday abroad…

I’d give my right arm to go and work in Saudi
