Thought we saw the best and worst of Nardi today, far better with his feet and positioning and made some good and important saves, but the failure to come and get the ball or deal with crosses was a big part of what allowed Wrexham to get on top 2nd half as it just kept coming back, nothing worse than seeing your centre backs having to head the ball in their own 6 yard box as far as the edge of the area when the keeper could and should have claimed |  | | |

He did, and was, but we also conceded maybe 3 or 4 corners to balls that Walsh or any keepers would have claimed and would have relieved pressure. Hence why I said best and worst. There is a huge benefit in having a keeper that can come and collect. | | | |

You summarised it perfectly....
I agree he did well overall and I felt more assured BUT he didn't even come for that cross in the 6 yard box which Dunne felt forced to head out for a corner. I would have backed myself to calmly collect that

It's been suggested that Cooper will return from Barnsley in January. From what I know of him he is a great shot stopper. But, as others have also commented, he's short for a keeper. It's a growing trend now to have a more traditional striker to get on the end of crosses and set pieces. We need a keeper who will effectively compete for high balls. I'm not sure Cooper is that keeper.
Nardi is probably the choice now for some time with Walsh out, but his obvious aerial weakness will cost us again as it has in the past. Salamon, at 6' 4", has the physique but I don't think is ready for the Championship. The keeper issue is one yet to be solved. [Post edited 14 Sep 9:07]

I prefer Nardi and was happy to see him back today. But, he was not blameless for their goal, I think Walsh would have come for that cross. A bigger concern for me was when he parried a simple shot straight to a Wrexham striker in the area. Luckily it didn't cost us a goal. |  |

I think goalies get more tactically blocked off now than they use to be, so it's much riskier coming for some balls, and I guess 'mistakes' are highlighted so much now it probably makes some keepers more nervous when you think the defender has a good chance of getting there. | |

Good post I would love to hear what Dunne said to Nardi there it was a keepers ball all day every day yet Dunne had to risk snapping his neck to head it away .
Wrexham already knew his weakness I think every corner was curved in on top of him .they got one and had 2 if not 3 uncontested headers which we survived.
I watched the West Ham V Spurs highlights and apparantly the West Ham keeper is so suspect on crosses the commentator kept mentioning it and to nobodys surprise Spurs keps pounding crosses and harassing him and scored at least 2 if not 3 from this strategy .
Nardi is a tall lean keeper he should be able to dominate his box IMO |  | | |

The big positive for Nardi is his distribution. In my view this more than compensates for his failure to collect crosses.
When passing or throwing the ball to defenders he shows a confidence and ability to quickly find a player in space. In comparison, Walsh hesitates and is too predictable, immediately putting the defender under pressure. Also when Nardi went direct yesterday he often kicked sensibly towards Dunne rather than an aimless boot forward.
Going back to problem with crosses, this wasnβt helped by Wrexham putting someone directly in front of him at corners with no QPR defender standing between them. At one corner, he was bundled to the floor and only just got up in time to make a save. |  | | |
