Have to say after yesterday I didn't particularly enjoy the usual after game beer. It was just so depressing to see the Skates celebrating like they'd won the FA Cup and all the noise coming from there as we were leaving

Our discussions afterwards were basically that we are now an average, if not slightly below average, Championship team and cannot see us even making the play offs.

We spent big (for this level) in the summer but as has been well documented here, in the wrong areas. The new guys will hopefully gel a bit more but nothing I saw really got the juices going

Next game is Hull and surely we can get 3 points there as they are a bit in turmoil and build from that? If not, then forget play offs, let alone promotion unless something major happens in the January window. We will remain a former glory team once an enviable club and top team on the South Coast

I fear the transfer strategy will yet again have been deemed to be flawed.

Time will tell.

However we don’t particularly look like scoring goals (6 in 5 League games) and I am struggling to see what sort of team we are in terms of playing style.

I think we have enough striker talent ay this level to make a difference, but until the manager works out how to use it (and in my view he failed yesterday) we are a bang average team at this level.

Not sure how many players who started yesterday also played last season regularly but perhaps half? That makes a difference.

This

I’ve not been able to work out what the instructions are for the players so far

Are we going for ball retention? Are we looking to hit teams fast on the break (no sniggering at the back) what is it we’re trying to do? Whatever it is, it’s been pretty dull so far.

We look so slow and ponderous compared to other teams.

Jam tomorrow

In the first half, Downes and Charles were either no shows or poor at best. Charles picked up in the second half, but Downes continues to perform at a level below that required. The TV commentator noted that Still said that people don’t want to pay to watch the CBs passing amongst themselves. Derrr!

Disappointed not to win but the game came at a bad time. Several new players bedding in, many of whom would have been away during the international break. We should have brought a striker in during the transfer window, but given that we didn't you have to choose a centre forward, give them a run of games and wait for them to click, which will hopefully happen with Archer.

Taking the positives we didn't lose, and after the first ten minutes never really looked like conceding. At the end of the season we won't look back on this as a good point but we will hopefully look back on it as a stepping stone to where we wanted to be.

Then again I might look pretty stupid when we're relegated, but nothing new there. :-(

I hope one of those midfielders we bought is a replacement for Downes.

I really thought Downes (and THB) would kick on to be decent assets when we went gained promotion under Rylan, but alas……

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......
