What a great day, 15:29 - Sep 20 with 4979 views | welwynranger | WEVE GOT A TEAM. Today was the first time in years that I felt we had a cohesive unit that wanted to play for the manager, each other and the fans.. If there is a weak link I'm sorry to say its Jimmy Dunne short of pace and caught out of position many times But Saito Kone and Burrell are a formidable strike force that will terrorise this league. I am so happy and proud to be an Rs fan today after years of dross. Vale is the real article the transition from midfield to attack is what we have been missing for season after season. So glad he scored his performance deserved it . What a quality finish . I thought Stoke had a lot of possession but we defended so well asa unit. A few scares near the end I haven't stopped smiling yet. I've had so many miserable train journeys home over the years That makes today even more special

What a great day, on 09:00 - Sep 21 by Beckenhamhoop | Dunne cemented his place at right back when Cifuentes used his as an aerial outlet higher up the pitch which he was very effective at. We were so bad at that point that he was pretty much our only option to get higher up the pitch. We don’t play like that now and so JD tends to play more as a conventional right back which isn’t really his game. He’s not very mobile and it was obvious before the game started that he’d struggle against Thomas. As someone else mentioned I think he’s probably a bit of a weak link now you consider how able we are across the rest of the pitch. I’m surprised Stoke didn’t target him more, especially after Manhoef’s back post header (how did he miss?!?) If he wasn’t the Captain I’m sure Morgan would have been subbed on at some stage yesterday. |
You make a good point about Dunne's changed role in Stephan's style of play. The question now is, can he adjust to it as he did when first converting to a FB? I think we've seen small improvements this season, game by game, so maybe he can.
What a great day, on 09:33 - Sep 21 with 1140 views | Hunterhoop | I think huge kudos needs to go to Stephan. The transformation from the Coventry debacle is huge and it seems to be heavily down to changing to 442 and going more direct. Fair play. Comparing to previous managers is a fools game though. He has Kone (and Burrell) up top. Previous managers had nothing like that all the back to Redknapp. I think the OP has some exaggeration in it. When we beat promotion hunting Leeds 4-0 18 months ago at LR, that was the result/performance of the last decade really. Great to get the result yesterday. A good performance in a tight game versus Stoke.

I was thinking about this this morning The manager has to get some kudos - he’s worked out very quickly (and painfully) how to get the best out of the squad We look well coached with clear direction n play with and without the ball Massive turn around in 3 weeks

What a great day, on 20:31 - Sep 20 by 100percent | Agree that Nardi still seems a bit nervy at present. Said to my son as we were leaving - imagine having their keeper behind this team - I thought he was their best player. |
100% agree. Johansson is a keeper.

If Dunne was struggling against a tricky and pacy winger why on earth would JS consider replacing him with a young and inexperienced midfielder at right back?

Is it just me that gets a bit uncomfortable with players who were so reliable in the last couple of seasons - and vital to our survival, in Dunne, Field and Cook getting written off now the young pretenders are in town? Personally, I think Dunne did fine yesterday with a tough assignment and he may not be absolutely at the top of his game but I am sure it will come again. I know the in-thought is that Cook is finished, but we will no doubt need him when Mbengue is suspended (cast iron red yesterday I thought in real time) - and of course Field too. I know it's tempting just to move on when we are flying but I find it hard to let go of the only players who performed just when we needed it.
What a great day, on 12:11 - Sep 21 with 683 views | Rsole | I do wonder if we should consider moving Dunne back to the centre and Mbonkers to RB.
| Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

What a great day, on 12:17 - Sep 21 with 658 views | baz_qpr | I thought Dunne had his best game so far this season. It's clear that the hip injury has been an issue to his slow start. I think Sam Field also has a tendency to start slow, he is a player who needs to be at peak fitness and has suffered each year with training method and then become indispensable come November. Mbengue will suspended within a week would not be too surprised to see Field come in at LCB at some point We've not had a midweek game for a few weeks now so next week will be the real test and I'm sure we will see more of the squad and perhaps more variation because of it.

Sorry Hunter, fat fingers. Agree with the post. Jimmy had a really tough task yesterday, which he stuck to very well. That cross at the school end from the left was brilliant and we were lucky to not concede. However, Thomas moved to the opposite side in the second half. Was that because he wasn't getting away from Jimmy often enough to create many chances?
What a great day, on 12:43 - Sep 21 with 549 views | paulparker | The difference this season is power & pace something we have lacked for years Fair play to the scouting team & DOF they have done really well with the budget given to them, no longer are we buying injury prone players, we are playing lads who have a hunger to go up to the next level , make the most of Kone whilst he is he as he won’t be here long With Poku to comeback and saito being the main man I cannot see how Chair comes back into this side
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

I'd feel more uncomfortable if we were still relying on Dunne, Field and Smyth as that would mean we haven't progressed. I think Beckenhamhoop is right, the change is style is highlighting Dunnes weakness, but also our LB as well. Let me put it this way, if we had full backs who had pace that could overlap imagine how much more dangerous we'd be.

Yes, they deserve credit. In some ways it must be a criticism of Les too - in a decade the two most effective strikers we signed were Nahki and Charlie, both on loan. Now we have two dangerous strikers playing together who we actually own. Famine to feast. I still think Nourry has made mistakes - the goalkeeping situation and the cup match - but fair play, we suddenly have a group of young, hungry players and I'm looking forward to going to matches again rather than attending out of duty.
