Please Nick when you do your Hull match Verdict call it for what it was for once 12:44 - Sep 21 with 1268 viewssaintmark1976

Some of my mates never read the Forum part of your excellent site and are guided purely by your Match Day Verdict on the Home Section.

We all marvel at your in the main, never flinching support of all things Southampton Football Club and Sports Republic, truly a quality to be admired.

Honestly though, it’s now time for you to take the gloves off and call out our current situation for what it is, an absolute shambles which simply isn’t acceptable to us long suffering fans.

It’s time for the Nick of old to reappear with all your old fire and brimstone please.

I am pretty sure this is what Nick will do. Just read the preview and you will see why !

In fairness, you don't have to worry about being banned by the Club.

As the editor and owner of this site, Nick is in a very different situation, and given past events has every reason to be concerned about this happening to him.

I regularly disagree with Nick on all matters Saints, but he has given us this platform for many a year to debate stuff, and I will always respect him for that.

At the moment Pat, being banned from attending St Mary’s and having the balance of my season ticket returned would be a blessing !

All joking aside, I take your point and like yourself, have and always will be, grateful for having the opportunity of expressing my opinion on his site.if nothing else it marginally reduces my frustrations with our current situation.

Let’s wait and see what he comes up with.

I think the thing that Nick and I disagree on most regularly is the multi-club ownership.

For the life of me, I cannot see how it benefits Saints.

Nick says it is the future and the way that most top clubs do things nowadays.

I would be a lot less critical of Sport Republic if they weren't devoting time and money to Goztepe and Valenciennes.

Ironically enough, it seems Juan scored for Goztepe a couple of days ago....

I don't really care about the multi club ownership, although given a choice I would rather have one owner concentrating on his one team. But that to me, is not relevant to us not buying Mcburney, or not buying the Stoke goalkeeper, or not buying Keiffer Moor, or not bringing in an experienced manager like the Boro manager or the Wrexham manager.

We could own 10 clubs, but if we had bought Keiffer Moor, Windass, the Stoke GK, didn't give Stephens a contract, didnt have Bazunu as our number one l, didnt keep buying 19 year olds barely out of college, and had Rohl as manager we wouldn't be so sh!t.

This lot just keep making the same mistakes.

Disagreements are part and parcel of football, the trick is to disagree and then move on, if I don't agree with Pat then I will fire back at him, but I don't hold it against him, I don't let it affect my liking of him as a friend.

I don't flinch in my support of Southampton Football Club, I will criticise it when it needs doing so, Sports republic are not bad owners, we could have far worse, but they are owners who are making mistakes and doing badly, there is a difference.

I call out Sport Republic when they deserve it

I have slated this performance for what it is.

But I also consider what happens next, what are the other options and more to the point are there better options.

Credit to you Nick you have on this occasion slated the performance.

As for falling out with you, I don’t recall ever meeting you.

Over the years we’ve had our differences of opinion but I’ve never taken the same personally and I fully imagine that you feel the same way.

I was talking in general and also about Pat who I have known about 30 years, I dont fall out with people just because we disagree on football, it would be boring if we all thought the same things all the time

The problem is, and the general malaise in the fanbase, is because what if by some miracle we get back to the PL? Will we invest in order to achieve and win medals with Sport Republic or will it be another horrible struggle as was stated at the fans' forum? So what is there to look forward to? Still good owners making mistakes? What if the next mistake is down to.league two.

And surviving in the PL seems light years away. Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford and more are run properly. This lot you say are making mistakes as you say, but how many more mistakes are acceptable? Two relegations in three years. 2 home wins in a year and a half. Would it be acceptable if we went down again?.

In my view, if they keep making mistakes, I don't know how they can be any good? Is that not like saying Bazunu.is a good goalkeeper but always makes mistakes? If he keeps making mistakes letting in goals, surely hes not very good!

With all respect SotonFan, I really like your posts and clear passion for the club (not that others on this forum lack that), and clearly the majority of not only this forum but Saints fans in general want to see either a change in ownership or at least a change in our fortunes on the pitch.
But physically what can we fans do to achieve that and is there a body that will stand up and do something about it? Are you willing to do something? What about this so called fans forum that was voted in a few years ago that I've heard nothing about (or have i missed something)? Write an open letter to the club via the Echo or something?
Do you think SR are aware of the feelings of us mere mortals and what we think is happening to our club or are we just taken for granted as we still fill SMS as well as take full allocations to away games
Just an opinion

Thank you for your response. Like you, after many years supporting the Saints, many years of scalps over the big 6, cup finals, a well respected English club, mostly in the top league, I personally see success for Saints as mid table in the top league, with a chance of winning one of the cups. A few tough seasons, and a relegation battle might be thrown in from time to time. It is possible, Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford, Palace do it. Those clubs are what I would call "successful". They are just run sensibly with common sense. Saints are just an absolute disaster on and off the pitch. They are just getting everything wrong from strikers (or none), managers, defenders, all wrong. And Sport Republic own it.

I think Bournemouth have been excellent with such a small stadium and such small club. They regularly beat the top 6, they lose good players but keep replacing them with even better players. They are 4th this evening. We lose good players, replace them with rubbish and completely self destruct. Palace too,.winning the FA Cup and the charity shield. They have also lost players. They just must be better run.

Thank you for your kind words sir. Yes, I am passionate about this club. I know many similar fans, and it is dam annoying when certain players like Downes yesterday (and many of our team) don't even jump for a header and barely move a finger. 500 mile round trip and players barely bother.

What can we do? Writing a letter won't make any difference, in my opinion. I am frustrated with "some" of the fans seemingly not sharing my anger / passion of defeat after defeat by standing there smiling and clapping. Do people smile when they are angry, annoyed, hurt? The majority of our fans, loyal yes but are the most laid back, passive lot I have ever seen. West Ham for example had thousands of fans protesting in their streets and they arnt even bottom of the league! Everton fans stopped players cars to show their frustrations. Newcastle had massive protests. Are they just more passionate? Why don't we do anything? Do people normally say well done to utter failure. Well done you got 1 out of 20 in your test. Well done you have just lost £5000 on your bet - well done.

Believe me, in the stands I am highly passionate and when I have started chants about Sport Republic, a few join in some just tut and stand there smiling and clapping. And the players just carry on playing like idiots because as a fanbase, we accept it or surely that is what it comes across as to the players. In answer to your question, I think we are taken for granted because we don't do anything! We don't protest, we just say get behind the team or people just walk out on the 75th minute until the next time. I think we should be making our thoughts known and demanding more. I dont understand the mentality.

If we go to a restaurant and the food is constantly sh!t, we complain right? We dont clap the chef and say well done lovely meal. In my view, it's not helping, it's making it worse. It comes across as we dont have expectations, this will do fine. This club, these players need to do better, not to be given a patronising clap after another terrible performance. We got lauded as great fans because we were so behind the team last season, and what good has it done? Are the club and players rewarding us for.our loyalty this season? Are they hell. I am glad to hear though, that many fans had indeed let rip yesterday.
