Stephan stands by team selection after QPR draw and gives Clarke-Salter update on 08:04 - Oct 3 by Northernr
You said, quote: " By many pre-season accounts (to which Clive may have contributed - I can't remember, as it's really just entertaining speculation not some kind of privileged prognostication), Birmingham and Wrexham were set to wipe the floor, because of their spending"
My actual prediction for Wrexham was 13th.
I'm actually disappointed. I mean the whacky views, the deliberately provocative statements, the sponsored Pat Nevin-a-thon, that weird tangent you go off every time Joey Barton gets mentioned, your insistence on constantly calling all the other posters thick, I've written off as just part of your schtick. But I did genuinely believe you when you told us all, repeatedly, that you're a world class wordsmith, editor and proof reader. Now here you are chucking out broad brushstroke nonsense, disprovable with a simple 30 second fact check. That copy wouldn't even make the subs desk at my gaff, I'd bang it back to the reporter telling them to get their facts straight.
I think you should probably cough to it and apologise to be honest. Lazy.
To be honest, Clive, I'm afraid I have no clear idea of what you feel I need to apologise for. With respect, I think it's you who needs to get back to reading what I say/don't say accurately rather than caricaturing/distorting it (why get defensive about your perfectly valid Wrexham prediction when I actually spoke of a generally tedious consensus correlating resources and standings, which I've already shown to be flawed elsewhere?), leaving aside your need here to run down, well, just about everything I write as (to you) weird, abusive, obsessive, provocative (what's wrong with provocative anyway - or would studied blandness on a football message board be preferable?) etc. etc. etc. After that kind of character assassination, it's lucky I still have a character left!
I don't have a 'schtick', by the way - I'm afraid I'm not that clever or calculating or strategic or self-promoting. I say what I think at a given time, on a given day, with a fan's foolish fervour, and people can deal with it or not as they wish - it doesn't really bother me. I'm a passionate supporter, I love writing, so I stir the pot, test the waters, and will mostly react adversely only if I feel people misrepresent what I say, as in this case. That's it! At the end of the day, all of this is just magnificently futile anyway, like football itself. Finally, if you seriously want/need to portray me as some kind of grandiose self-publicist, when I have spoken only occasionally and in passing about my work (far less than you do, in fact), be my guest, but it's simply not true.
Much of this mainly just reinforces to me that, in human groups, it's generally not what's said but who's saying it that gets valued/devalued, according to projective dynamics and status regimes. Just as QPR fans often need scapegoats on the pitch, it's hardly surprising that the same dynamics are replicated on a board like this one. As in life, the best defended tend to have the safest passage, while the most open and vulnerable get shot at and shat on.
In the meantime, (as, for my part, I have no axe to grind), keep up the great work, which, as I said on your Oxford report, I often wish could be sent direct to the club! Any updates on whether/when they plan on speaking to LfW, by the way?

the biggest issue was the kone frey front line , we have gone from pace to painfully slow , both of them going for the same balls at one stage as well , apart from that and dembele showing zero intrest again it was a decent first team .
im still amazed we have givenb frey a new deal to be honest
Think that’s unfair on Frey. First start of the season, not his fault he was paired with Kone (who he outperformed on the day IMO) instead of Burrell. Clearly short of match fitness and also probably the first time he’s been played in a two up front at QPR instead of being sole striker and the focal point of the attack. I think he’ll contribute this season as a decent enough back up to Kone.

and yet every season when we have these 3 games week the team tned to lose the 3rd game so he went a different way last night and wasn't miles away from working. That team he picked should have been good enough to play better than they did
Are you sure?
Frey, Field and Hayden have barely kicked a ball all season and some of pre-season. They looked (and played) as rusty as a nail on a 300 year old sunken Spanish galleon.
In a 3 game week, with one at home to a team in the relegation spots, that’s the one you go all out to pick up the three points. Lose today at Bristol, which in theory should be a much tougher gig than Oxford, then we have had a shit week. Even a draw would make it no better than mediocre.
I do not believe that Saito and Burrell weren’t sufficiently fit or fresh to play at least 60 minutes of the game against Oxford. Get your noses in front and then bring on Field and Hayden to shut the game down.

Field had a full pre season and started the first 3 games, yet was still poor.
I think what the game highlighted is how poor some of the players we have in reserve still. We know the coach likes a direct style with pace. Players like Field and Frey are not suited to it. Add in Dembele who looks completely unsuited to Championship football then I'm not surprised we looked turgid.

Still lots to sort out in the squad next summer.
Very true

To quote back at you what you seem to LOVE having the opportunity to quite to others on an OBSESSIVE basis: "You've missed the point".
Virtually everything you post IS abusive, and literally everyone who takes issue with anything you say gets treated with complete contempt.
Please don't come back at me with anything that resembles "I stick to the points" because you know full well that you are a past master at making deeply snide personal remarks.
Whilst I personally have to admit that I enjoy having the excuse to deliver a metaphorical punch to your clueless face on a regular basis, there are many others who don't and who would prefer that you disappeared off permanently into whatever cloud of narcissistic ether you originally emanated from.
An acceptable alternative, however, might be that you actually apologise to everyone you've offended over the years on here and - with this enormous intellect that you allegedly possess - take the time to reflect on why posters like me feel the need to address you like this in a completely different tone of voice to everyone else they communicate with on here.
