The guy is a walking disaster zone. Looking forward to the backlash next week when he will inevitably hand over billions of pounds of our money to rebuild Gaza. Enough to fill several black holes no doubt.

He's already paid out and committed to paying out 100's of millions out to the Chagos islands annually and he must have known that these people would want to come here to live as is their right after being under British control for many many years, mans an utter clown.
He's financially crippling the country.

This is the development I mentioned a few days ago in the Chagos thread. Somebody expressed doubt about the veracity of the report because the story was broken by the Express. To me, the issue is more that the Guardian and Indy tend to avoid stories like this, although the BBC has belatedly reported it. I see the Government is saying that the arrivals have nothing to do with the Chagos deal, which is belied by statements from some of those involved who say they do not feel safe in Mauritius when they express opposition to the transfer of ownership.

That was me John, it was based on the fact that the daily Express often make these type of headlines, admittedly this is one they have got right.

Direct quote from the report-

But in 2002, a limited number of Chagossians were granted the right to full British citizenship. Several thousand now live in the UK, incuding an expat population of 3,000 in Crawley, West Sussex
Then in November 2022, the government launched a new British nationality route which was widened to all individuals of Chagossian descent, living anywhere in the world, permitting them to be recognised as British citizens free of charge.
Adults have five years, from 23 November 2022, to claim British nationality. Children born within the five-year application time have until they are 23 to apply.

What has this got to do with Starmer?

I was not aware we had bought the islands off Mauritius in the 60’s.

How then can they have any claim on them if they sold them willingly and legally? How can we just give away an asset that we have paid for then continue to pay billions to keep using it. And Lammy and Starmer and the rest of the blithering idiots we have in charge have the gall to stand up and say this is a fantastic deal. The mind boggles on this one something really dodgy is going on.

It’s like buying a house then years later the previous owner comes up to you and says “oi mate that’s my house. Give it back. Sign it over to me and you can stay there as long as you pay extortionate rent”.

Mauritius must be laughing all the way to the bank. They’ve kept the proceeds of the original sale, got the islands back for free and we’ve also agreed to pay them numerous billions.

Greatest deal in history.

I think the argument is that he did not tie down this deal very well. Depends how you see it, but there is a reasonable argument that if you hand back sovereignty you should address all issues regarding citizenship.

Absolutely they’re all complicit in this nonsense but Labour are now in power and the final decision to sign it off was ultimately theirs. Also they’re the ones proudly proclaiming it’s a fantastic deal and some sort of incredible diplomatic coup.

At some point they are going to have to take accountability of the fact that they are in charge now. They’ve made an absolute pigs ear of things so far. They’ve gone back on pretty much every election promise and been embroiled in scandal after scandal.

We all know and agree with the concept of the 14 years of shambles that preceded it, we were there. 18 months in we’d expect to see green shoots at least, but it’s got worse if anything.

It was always going to take 4 or 5 years to sort any mess out that the previous lot made.
Should Starmer have backtracked on the deal promised by the Tories?
Would that have been right?
If you shake hands on a deal don’t you stick to it? I always have.
17 months in to clear 14 years of mess ?
Starmer has made mistakes, the winter fuel allowance being a big one. It’s been reinstated though.

It’s just a crap excuse though. The Tories claimed they were clearing up the mess left by Blair and brown, Blair was clearing up the mess left by thatcher and major. It’s just political nonsense that every government spouts. They’re in charge, they’ve got a massive majority. There can be no excuses now. They already made a massive u turn on their budget, had to make massive concessions on their welfare bill. Their homelessness minister made her own tenants homeless. The corruption minister has been charged with corruption. Their housing secretary got caught fiddling stamp duty.

Starmer promised an end to VIP fast lanes, corruption and kickbacks to colleagues then immediately parachuted a load of his lawyer colleagues into the House of Lords, Peter fecking Mandelson and Jaqui smith were given important roles. He himself was embroiled in a storm for accepting thousands of pounds of gifts from a wealthy donor seemingly in exchange for a pass to No.10.

If this was the Tories doing all this you’d be screaming from the rooftops and rightly so.

They have been utterly atrocious by all and every measure.

Builthy he virtually makes mistakes on a weekly if not a daily basis, he's out of his depth along with his useless chancellor, it's about time the penny dropped with the Labour stalwarts he's been a disaster for the Country, he's given billions away and spending everything and anything and expecting the taxpayer to pick up the bill.

ID cards another of his hairbrained schemes, apparently that are 75 or more London based banks that are closing in the next 12 months or less and then we'll be well on the way to a totally cashless society and then these in Whitehall will have total control over the Countries people.
How are they allowed to make these these decisions, surely there should be referendums or similar on things like these.

Free country we live in apparently more like a communist state.

Many if not most of the problems that the economy especially faces at the moment are a direct result of actions taken during the Pandemic. Labour's excuses of having to "clean up the mess left by the Tories" would hold a lot more weight if they hadn't been screaming and demanding that those actions go deeper and longer than they did.

We saw in Wales what a Labour Govt in Westminster would have done and it was even worse than all Boris managed to cook up. These financial issues are also being faced by some of the larger economies on the Continent (especially in France) so the usual trick of blaming Brexit doesn't work either.

The last Govt failed utterly to deliver on the promises made in 2019 and deserved to lose. Labour have come in and dialled up the insanity by several levels. Nothing they've done had any prospect of fixing anything. It's mostly just been a combination of utter stupidity and Socialist spite, with a strong hint of cronyism to top it off.

So what’s the answer?
Would you go for Farage who has promised every British person that they will pay no taxes on their first £25k, and will slash fuel duty by 20p per litre. That will cost the country £120 billion.
No hospitals, police, fire brigade or road repairs.

He says he will, stop the boats but what he gonna do? Shoot them as they enter British waters?

So would you vote for him?

The answer is for this government to be better. We don’t have an election until 2029 (probably), we’re stuck with them until then. They simply have to step up. The image of the Chancellor of the Exchequer bawling her eyes out on the front bench of the House of Commons said it all. They are massively struggling with the enormity of the job.

And no i have no intention of voting for Farage/Reform.

My thinking at the moment. I won't vote Conservative or Labour they have messed up big time and deserve all they are getting. Plaid is a pointless vote in GE and I am reluctant to vote for them in the Senedd election because they did much of the damage supporting Labour. Reform until I see the detail in the manifesto and who my local candidate is who knows. Independent possibly dependent on the candidate, but that is asking for a hung Senedd if there is a large number of independents. Lib Dems, Greens ect are not for me. So currently its between Reform and Independent. Anyone who believes half the soundbites going around at the moment regarding Reform must be as loopy as they think Farage is.

Strange that some forget the fact that agreements were in place made by the Tory government such as flights to Rwanda but cancelled as soon as labour entered Downing Street, that particular one didn't suit them but selling the islands did and now yet again at a great cost to us..

So how many billions are the acceptable amount and if I remember correctly Truss was booted out by her peers not by us but her legacy was one of many reasons that the Torys' correctly lost power at the last election.

The Rwanda deal rightly or wrongly wasn't given a chance to see if it would work which is ironic when you see other course now considering doing similar deals.
Selling the islands is another threat to the security of these islands ,something that any competent politicians would be aware of but then when you have a PM in a previous life fighting the then government against deportation of one of Osama's right hand men from the UK are you surprised.
