Not a fan of international breaks but if you believe the press this break ensures Chair and Poku are fit to return and even JCS, definitely Mbengue.

So the mad possibility that Walsh is the only injured 1st teamer.

Let’s play that game “ Who misses out”

Thinking Hayden or Sam are at risk of not being on the bench for a home game.

Mbengue on the bench as Cooky really looked like his old self.

RND ahead of Esquerdinha so does our Brazilian miss out completely.

Smythy, Vale, Saito, Dembele, Poku, Chair, Kolli?

I think the starting 11 picks itself but the options on the bench make for tough decisions for our favourite Frenchman.

Nice problem to have

Gazza I believe you are underestimating the effects of flying.

As someone who has travelled extensively, I have experience of how tiring it is and how some are affected more than others.

Firstly, you have the upset to your circadian rhythm. Your internal body clock. Your sleep schedule, you may wake up at a completely different time and may have trouble sleeping when you want to. You will be eating, training and playing matches at different times. For example currently in Japan it is eight hours ahead of us, whilst Jamaica is six hour behind. When the clocks change in the UK, it is only by one hour but it still affects us. We may naturally wake up earlier (or later) than we want and may be more or less tired in the evening. In the UK, it's been said our evening road accidents increase in late October, the week then clocks go back, and that it can take up to a week for us to readjust.

Secondly, the physical effects of flying. Even in first class, if there is one, it can be difficult sleeping. There is the background noise of the aircraft, noise from the galleys, noise from other passengers who are awake, and don't underestimate the noise and vibration from the floor from, mainly cabin crew, walking around the aircraft. Then there is the possibility/probability of turbulence. It's severity can vary from mild to extreme and will likely disturb any sleep you may be getting.

There is also the pressurisation of the aircraft. This can affect your ears, bloat your stomach and dehydrate you. You can mitigate this to some extent but it's virtually impossible to stay hydrated if you are asleep. I met a guy who worked for Toronto in the MLS, just after Ryan Nelson had left them. He told me that their players wore special rubber (pressurisation) suits to protect them from the effects of constantly flying to and from their matches. They usually took daylight flights and didn't really have to sleep in them.

Additionally, there is usually poor cabin air. On the majority of aircraft it may be recirculated and warmed by the engines, it's not very healthy and it is possible to become infected with viruses that others maybe spreading.

Players will have the best care and facilities available, this may lessen the effects and help with recovery. Some will cope better than others. However, we only have to look back at Massimo Luongo's time with us, and how he would really struggle on his return from international duty, to get an idea of the debilitating effects of long haul travel.

Yes. Saito with at least a 15hr flight is gonna suffer most. I'm wondering if their are any Premier League Japanese players getting flown back via a private jet that Koki can cadge a lift on?
That said, I dunno the range of a £billionaire's Lear jet and maybe they are no quicker due to refuelling stops?

Can only think of Kamada. Palace too cheap to do that though.

Smells like a trout farm in here

I think it would involve at least two stops. Probably then needs a crew change too.
Insurance would probably increase due to takeoff and landings being the most critical parts of a flight. So no not worth it.

They played on Tuesday so back on Wednesday. The flight back from Tokyo should be a day light flight, getting you home early evening and ready for a good night's sleep. He should be fine for some involvement on Saturday.

Obviously, the question is mainly about the attacking 3. Potentially, we have Harvey Vale, Kwame Poku, Karamoko Dembele, Ilias Chair, Koki Saito, Paul Smyth, Rayan Kolli and Rumarn Burrell, if you count him in the 3, from which to choose. I wouldn't be unhappy with a combination of any of those players, although possibly not Dembele due to his current form.

Taking into account that we have players returning from overseas and injury, I'd think a decision won't be taken until the latest possible moment, but I'd hazard a wee guess at Vale, Kolli and Saito to start.

I'd start Smyth rather than Saito or Poku. He deserves a start having scored two in four and it's good to reward effort/performance. I wouldn't start Kolli yet but bring him on for minutes.

I think we've just found an effective role for Smyth as an impact sub which is what he always should have been. Unless fitness or sharpness is an issue, Saito has to be starting for me

WLS reporting Chair and Poku available Saturday but RND a bit of a doubt. I reckon Smyth might start especially if Burrell cannot because of his pace.

First time in a number of years where we have a squad that looks pretty good and interchangeable.

I quite like changing things up within reason. Other teams have been stifling Saito recently.

If Burrell isn't ready after his travels I'd quite like to see Chair in a front two behind Kone.
