Promotion odds 08:56 - Oct 13 with 2079 views | dutch | Rather stupidly I just checked the odds on promotion from the Championship. We are 22to1 which is probably about right, but both Sheffield United and Wrexham are shorter odds than us. SU cannot get a point and Wrexham aren't much better. I realise we are not even a quarter of the way through the season, but surely we are a better bet than those two.

Yes but can only spend in January. I think the main reason is that SU and Wrexham because of the name of the former and publicity of the latter get more bets placed than we do

Promotion odds on 11:52 - Oct 13 with 1503 views | Watford_Ranger | We’re the same odds for top six as we are to go down (17/2) which is probably about right though being as objective as possible I’d have a bet on the former over the latter if I had to. Sheff U will probably eventually get going but it’s been a weak start for Wilder. The win at Oxford was undeserved. 9/1 to go down. I’ve seen worse bets.
Promotion odds on 12:45 - Oct 13 with 1351 views | WestonsuperR | Risk of appearing a bit negative here but had a good look at the underlying data so far this season, mainly based around XG. Our numbers aren’t particularly good and we should really be lower midtable, I wonder if some of the bookies now take more of a look at this more advanced way of analysing progress.

I'm always slightly sceptical about xG - it calculates the quality of a chance based on an average player scoring it, so if you have a better player (like Kone) then he's more likely to convert it than a crap one (like Bonne). Ergo having better forwards like we do now should mean we can outperform our xG. [Post edited 13 Oct 13:08]

And of course, when we conceded seven against Coventry their xG was rated as low as 1.27 for that particular game... [Post edited 13 Oct 13:53]

Take the first three games out of the equation and then what do the stats look like? Here's just how out of whack Sheff Utd's shorter odds are: if they show promotion form of two points per game from now on and we simply maintain our current points per game of 1.67, it will be another 35 games before they draw level. Even if our form drops to 1.5 ppg it would still take them 32 games to draw level. I wonder what odds you'd get on QPR to finish above Sheff Utd? I'd be amazed if they were as long as even.

Where d'ya get them odds? I don't think any team was more than 50/1 to go up at start of season. Even narrowing it down to being champions or automatic promotion didnt bump the odds much. I can't remember our odds precisely but I vaguely recall 33/1 to be champs. 150/1 sounds implausible.
Promotion odds on 22:38 - Oct 13 with 534 views | numptydumpty | QPR were listed at 125 to 1 for the title, but it got boosted up another 5 points. But betting each way was for a quarter the odds 1,2,3,4. i backed us after the Coventry game. Know probably shouldnt advertise this as some have a difficult time with gambling but oddschecker - checks odds available over all betting websites etc... [Post edited 13 Oct 22:41]

Bookies would have taken money on Sheff Utd as an obvious team you'd expect to be up there so the exposure is larger, limiting the odds on offer. Wrexham are obviously well funded and there's also plenty out there that purely based on the TV show just expect them to march through the championship to the prem. This probably explains their odds being shorter. Even a couple of colleagues here who know little about football in general but have watched that show were surprised when I said I thought they had no chance this season (this was just after we won there) and explained that buying their way up this far was relatively easy but there are teams in the champ with serious cash/parachute money and the FFP rules are tighter meaning it won't be so easy for them.
