Caerphilly by-election 09:51 - Oct 13 with 1156 views | trampie | Reform favourites, Plaid the only other party that could win it, seems like Labour, Tories, Lib-Dems etc are nowhere. Talk is Plaid can win if its a low turnout as they tend to get their vote out, Reform will expect to win if its a reasonable turnout as the not particularly politically engaged voters/floating voters might well vote Reform.

Caerphilly by-election on 01:56 - Oct 21 with 701 views | Robbie | Think Plaid might be a dark horse on the outside rails to get a head this week . Reform are still appearing bouyant and talk big , but let us hope for a good turnout and a result the locals have voted for , those who cannot be bothered then moan after , tough . Looks like Labour have chucked the towel in on this by election too . Starmer cannot be interested to cross The Seven Bridge to fly the flag and support his Candidate standing either . Tories have given up hope to as well , if ever they did have a chance of a victory .

It reflects what I have found within my own family, reducing the voting age was a stupid idea. The politicians who pushed this through have a distorted opinion of children and politics, of course the children of politicians will have a better understanding of politics because they are brought up in that environment, the majority of children don't really have a clue or actually care. If they wanted to change the law there should have been a structured political learning in schools before the change, not change the law then try and chase with education.

Caerphilly by-election on 10:05 - Oct 22 with 304 views | johnlangy | An interesting conversation on a Caerphilly doorstep recently. ************************* Writing on her Facebook page, Yuliia Bond, a prominent member of Caerphilly’s Ukrainian community who fled her homeland in the wake of Russia’s invasion, stated: “So, yesterday in Caerphilly, our amazing neighbour Olena, who’s originally from Ukraine, came in 2022, had a very special visitor at her door – a local canvasser from the Reform Party. “He turns up all smiles, holding leaflets like he’s about to save democracy. ‘Good afternoon!’ he says proudly. “‘’m from the Reform Party – can we count on your support?’ “Olena, ever polite, smiles and replies: ‘Oh, really? You mean the party that wants to scrap the Nation of Sanctuary scheme that actually helped people like me when I came to Wales?’ “He looks confused. She calmly says: “’’m Ukrainian.’ ‘Oh, no – the Nation of Sanctuary programme is only for asylum seekers,’ he says confidently. “Olena blinks. ‘Actually, no – it’s mainly for Ukrainians. 85% of the funding was used for Ukrainians. That’s literally my scheme.’ “He stammered: ‘Uh … I don’t really know about that. I think maybe we made a … petition against this scheme?’ “Olena raised an eyebrow – the kind of look only a Ukrainian mum can pull off. ‘So you’re knocking on doors,’ she says, ‘but don’t even know your own policies?’ “He laughed nervously, mumbling something about ‘just helping the campaign,’ clutching his leaflets like a life raft. “Then Olena delivered the knockout line: ‘That’s OK. I do know – and we Ukrainians can vote in local elections now.’ “He blinked, nodded, and practically backed off the doorstep like a man retreating from battle. Pretty sure he’s still googling what his own party stands for. “Now the neighbours are calling her Olena the Campaign Crusher of Caerphilly. “Moral of the story? Never knock on a Ukrainian’s door unprepared – we do actually read manifestos and check the information on your leaflets.” *******************************

That is exactly why a vote for Plaid is a vote for more of the same. Thankfully the more intelligent can see right though it.
Caerphilly by-election on 15:10 - Oct 22 with 84 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | People are free to vote how they see fit and I completely understand the concept of tactical voting but I am vehemently against it. A healthy democracy is bourne out of people voting for things they believe in, not against things they don’t. Openly calling for tactical voting is an admission that they can’t bring enough people with them with their own arguments and is an unhealthy way to win elections.

The "more of the same" point is spot on. I hope we don't get another tired Labour-Plaid coalition. Surely people can see we would just be rewarding pretty much the same politicians who have brought us to where we are now. It would reflect almost as badly on the Welsh electorate as the idea that you could pin a red rosette on a pig and still get the usual result.

There lies the quandary me, I am hoping I have a decent independent in my area. But the problem then is if they do not seem to have enough support to get in I would need to vote reform to stop more of the same. Tactical voting or a common sense approach.

I share the doubts about Reform. However, my line of reasoning is that a really good showing for Reform in the Senedd elections would not in itself cement Reform in government in the long term and might well have a highly positive effect in bringing the other parties back to something closer to sanity.
