Hopefully he'll start for us on Saturday.

Liked him when he was on loan and liked him even more when we signed him permanently.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Disagree.
What did you make of Varane’s sitter to finish the game?

Ironically, it was a very 'Sam Field' miss: get a presentable chance in the middle of the area, shape up nicely, and curl it just round the wrong side of the post.

That's harsh Ham, proper harsh........whilst I do not think that he was outstanding tonight I thought he did a good job defensively overall at LB - cannot recall the wide player going round him once tbh, kept his position supported us going forward reasonably well, won some big tackles/blocks. Played his part in a good win. A good 6 I would say!!!

Agree with your assessment of his performance
Interestingly one thing not given too much press on our improved form has been the introduction of a solid defensive left back. Norrington-Davies has played his part nothing spectacular going forward but sound and Field was as solid last night.
With Chair, Smyth,Dembele,Saito , Vale and Poku we’re not short of players that can do the attacking part on the left hand side - or the right for that matter.

I never lie but I don't always tell the truth

One question, why did he play LB last night?

Not the first time we've gone to Swansea and gone with a back four of CBs, or tall players. Swansea like to do that widthways switch out ball which can catch smaller FBs out at the back post.

Has anyone translated 'to spell a thin back line' yet, or am I the only one who doesn't understand it?

It's US sports talk, kensal. It means to play some games as a backup player. Maybe like Fox last year.

'Platoon' is when you have two players who share a position, maybe you prefer one left-back away from home, and one at home.

Could be a few things.....

RND may have been tired after Saturday, may have a minor knock, wanted a taller LB although RND can head the ball pretty well, may not have been 'happy' with his performance on Saturday, give Field game time for various reasons, lots & lots of reasons.

BUT most likely after reading this very LFW thread to 'pish off' posters on this MB who thinks Field's career at the R's is over ....it isn't over and those who think it is are one of those uneducated posters that I mention!!!! He has a role to play, not every week if all are fit, but with the squad.

Nice, I nominate you as official LfW translator.

How about the 'thin back line'?

It's a squad game & Sam Field will be an important member of that squad this season just as he has been for the last few.

Clearly i / most would love him in the squad. But is he happy being a player who is mostly on the bench? As squad improves, difficult to keep everyone happy.

Jeez, he was shite tonight. Granted playing out of position, but still shite!

I don't know what game you were watching, but he didn't make any great howlers nor was he skinned by any attackers down his flank. It's true he never made the attacking full back runs that RND has been making, but I think he put in a solid defensive left back performance .
