| Funniest book you’ve read. 19:21 - Oct 26 with 797 views | Mick_S | Cheers Bristol! We’ve both mentioned Spike Milligan’s war memoirs. I’m a bookshop mug when I read “ the funniest” etc on the sleeve because they rarely are, but it’s too late as it’s in my bag. I think my favourite may be A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. He killed himself because initially people didn’t get his work and when they did it was a bit on the late side. Definitely going back to this one, Brian. Must remember: don’t lend books to people, especially good ones. | |

Tom Sharpe - I read those a long time ago. The Flashman series of course and that was a long time ago as well. Maybe, from memory, the most recent was The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared. [Post edited 26 Oct 20:26]

I started to read Tom Sharpe in the early nineties so I reckon it’s about time to revisit them. Recently bought Bob Mortimer’s first novel, The Satsuma Complex. If it is as funny as the man himself then I’ll more than enjoy it.

| Funniest book you’ve read. on 21:02 - Oct 26 with 379 views | dmm | I too have read Milligan's Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall and Puckoon, but way, way back when and loved them. I've tried to think of other humorous books I've read and can't think of that many. Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island is amusing, as are the other books of his I've read. There's an old paperback still on my bookshelf from years back called The Book of Heroic Failures by Stephen Pile. That was entertaining. However, I listened to my first audiobook a month or so ago and that really was laugh out loud funny. Thatcher Stole my Trousers by Alexei Sayle, and read by the man himself. Great stuff. | | | |

Yes I read them way back - in the late 70s/early 80s possibly - and wonder if they've stood the test of time as your sense of humour changes.
