Have been checking our best run-ins since I've been a supporter. It may bring back a few memories for oldies like me.
1968 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
1971 6W 2D 2L = 20pts
1972 6W 3D 0L = 21pts
1973 7W 1D 1L = 22pts
1976 8W 0D 1L = 24pts
1984 6W 2D 1L = 20pts
1989 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
1997 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
2003 7W 1D 1L = 22pts
Subject to other teams peformances, I think a run of similar results would get us over the line and into the play-offs. They are capable of it when playing like yesterday. Let's hope. |

Dowie, if i'm remembering correctly. Think they may have only been in the bottom 3 too.
Win 7 of our last 9 and we can make it imo. Only have Millwall to play of the teams in the chasing pack for that last play-off spot, which is a bit of a shame in terms of making up ground on our rivals but, on the other hand, our run in looks pretty kind aside from Fulham at home and WBA away.

Lovely stuff. If we can equal the ratio of 12 points from 6 games for the remaining 9 games, which would be good going, we'll probably still fall short on 68 points. There are just too many teams above us with less to do. I think we'll finish 11th or 12th now. |  |

They were sixth from bottom at Xmas and had spent pretty much the whole season in the bottom six prior to Dowie pitching up just before Xmas. After 37 games they were 11th and five points from the play offs fairly similar to us now.

Of their last nine games that season they won six and drew one.

Taking a look back at recent final tables the team finishing 6th needs to have around 75 points. I know there's not a huge gap at the moment but we'd need at least another 20-25 points on what we've gained so far in 37 games from the final 9. It's not impossible but I think it's very unlikely.
If we're only 3-4 points away after Fulham then I'd start to get a little bit more excited! |
Agree with this, having had a look at the maths and basic projections, considering we have so many teams above us the likelihood is at least one of them will go on a good run. If I had to predict I’d suggest around 22pts needed (7 wins and a draw from 9). Almost impossible. |  | | |

Great thing about this group is they keep ripping monkeys off backs. Forest last year . A double over Preston this.
I've enjoyed this season so much. Great football, a welsh drubbing (11.2) but as to your main question . I think we've left it too late to mount a challenge.
One last point, warburton has been a great appointment.
Under him we never look like going down as opposed to McClaren and Ollie where those long losing runs put us under so much pressure!! |
Yeah likewise, much as Preston was a great win and with ten men we did have a bit of the rub of the green and I think we'd need that in every game to the end of the season to somehow make the play offs.
