In terms of developing as a player and value to the club this is a great deal.
Get this season finished as best as possible pushing up the league and next season will be the big one for both club and player, 3 to 4 seasons on his contract and having played well we have a real asset on our hands.
Fail to get promoted and there should be enough protection to get a good fee for him whereas, unlikely or not, we can get up to Premier there's again enough on the contract to keep him for season after promotion.
Good forward thinking and hopefully enough incentives for Ilias to keep improving within the contract too.
Fingers crossed it works out for all concerned and puts a gloss on these 4yr deals the club have been investing in the youth.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal for Charlie being announced soon, Ilias must have had some assurance of ambition from the club to sign that length of contract? [Post edited 29 Jan 2021 14:27]

Hope he really kicks on now. He's got a lot of skills but I haven't been enamored with how he has played at times this season. But I do think he was placed in an unenviable position to replace Eze which is a bit unfair since he's a totally different player.

Let me start with a disclaimer - I've been watching football for almost half a century, but I find my 'knowledge' embarrassing when people start talking about formations and squeezing lines and inverting channels etc. How most of you can tell the formation within seconds of kick-off remains a mystery to me.
However... I do wonder if Ilias might end up being a better '8' than '10'? He's got a great engine / work ethic, doesn't mind putting a tackle in, can pick a pass and could maybe be even more prolific arriving slightly later? | | | |

I've been saying this for a long time, I still stand by the fact that his best game was that debut game against Brum, where he was the epitome of box to box, driving us forward and also chipping in with a goal.
Linked everything perfectly that game and thought at the time, that he was the player we thought we were getting with Scowen.
However terrific news and I really hope the rest this week allows him to recharge as he was looking drained. |  | | |
