Reading FC have written to the other 23 Championship clubs to offer a reciprocal ticketing arrangement:

Their fans can have away ticket prices capped at £20 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, if Reading supporters can have the same at their ground.

Four clubs: Cardiff, Swansea, Blackburn & Huddersfield have already replied and agreed to the offer.

Hopefully QPR will too.

While I support the general thrust of the campaign, it kinda feels like £20 is an arbitrary price cos it rhymes

In view of what’s coming down the economic tracks, I think football needs to focus on ensuring ‘bums on seats’.

It’s noticeable when I make return visits that the crowd is ageing, so getting younger fans in should, in my humble opinion, be a priority.

Speaking from personal experience, once you get out of the habit of going, it’s easy to become an occasional to eventually being a non-attending supporter. But if you’re not getting people to go and get into the habit of going to replace those who drop off and out, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Cost is a factor, so I think it’s a good idea to reduce entry fees. I also have a feeling the Doha World Cup will struggle to sell and if it’s a damp squib then a rot could accompany the predicted economic woes that are coming and football could slip back to pre-Italia 90 in terms of lower crowds.

It might seem incredulous to some, but you could travel to Anfield, OT, Highbury etc and just pay on the door and I don’t recall the entry fees being a huge impact to my student income.

The year we went up with Holloway, ST prices for students in the Paddocks were £89 and they were packed out with youngsters.

I wonder if any of those students went on to pay full prices season tickets for the following 20 years.

I‘m obviously not saying a £89 ST is realistic but these sort of schemes work and do a world of good for a clubs image.

Financially it seems like a terrible idea. But I don't think it's about finances is it? More of a goodwill gesture to those fans who spend a small fortune, and most notably the ones who spend a large fortune, traveling to the away games.

With rising costs I can see plenty of away seats up and down the country god knows what petrol costs will be by then and trains will go up with it,

I wonder how much it'd cost the petrol in the coach for Blackburn iin a few weeks as opposed to the similar away last season.

And in general I think home and away could see many more empty seats as costs seem to not be abating anytime soon.

Given the geographical make up of the league this year, plus the cost of long-distance travel, I can't see reducing an away ticket to £20 making much of a difference. The teams that travel well will continue to travel well. Focus should be on getting more home fans through the gates, than anything.

From a QPR perspective...an away day in London is normally a pretty big draw for any visiting club as it gives them an opportunity for a day/weekend in the smoke as well as the football.

I'd be interested to know how our % of away allocation sold against total allocation stacks up against the rest of the league.

I'm sure someone out there has the data / done the sums.

But if that data exists, and it shows we're at the higher end of that as I suspect we might be...its probably the sort of data to make Lee Hoos look at something like "£20 is plenty" and think "balls to that".

Anecdotally, northern fans I know hate coming to us because of high train fares into London but in particular hate Loftus Road for the same reason anyone with kneecaps does!

We are attractive to purists though because of the old school stadium.

Yes I agree, the QPR facilities are pretty awful for the home fans let alone what the away fans get. Reminds me of going to Charlton. 3 Quarters of the ground looks good and roomy then there's the away end and that toilet block that looks like a smack den.

Very true re high train fares - off topic but I was in London on Saturday and despite living a 1.5 mile walk from Leicester train station it was significantly cheaper for me to drive 18 miles to Rugby station, park in Rugby station all day and get a return travelcard from Rugby to London Euston, than it was to get a train to St Pancras from Leicester.

Absolutely nonsensical, but that's a separate discussion to Twenty is Plenty!

isnt that f*cking our travelling support as well?

The idea is to encourage travelling support by making it more affordable. surely thats a reasonable idea regardless of who the team is.

Train prices, petrol costs and having a shìt ground located off a junction is what's fcking away support, charging less won't make a difference to those willing to go.

The fact is we rely very heavily on ticket money so we can't drop prices without a bigger ground. We need to charge more, so we will keep doing it.

This.

I'd think twice about going to Reading this season, although it was a cracking day out last season, just because of the terrible journey to get there and back. It took me three and half hours and I live in Kingston. Hours waiting for the poxy bus outside the stadium, hours on the poxy bus as the traffic's so bad into the city centre. Then three changes to get back, including a rail replacement.

The match was because we equalised right at the end and it felt like a win. Also it was a great turn out of QPR away fans, many of them in the home end.

Calculations need to be carried out to see if this would be economically viable, but I don't know how much the match day ticket is for the Upper School End! It isn't allowed to be more than for the Upper Loft though.

Therefore, If the figure is £30 per ticket, the number of away fans has to increase by 50% to receive the same income at £20 per ticket. I doubt that this would be the likely outcome. Of course, if a club charges less to start with, a 50% increase in numbers would bring extra revenue.

I can see nothing wrong with clubs agreeing between themselves to adhere to a reciprocal arrangement, but I'd rather not have away fans being charged less than home fans as a general rule.

Now, if they did that to us, I'd be offski. I love the club very much but fk that.
