They were owned in part by UK citizen like me who share in the dividend payments which are also taxable. Only the first £2000 are tax free. Citizens benefitted from cheap prices and from the sale of British gas exploration. UK citizens regularly vot anti EU and red tape. Now the red tape leads to shit in the river. You can contract E Coli from swimming in or drinking contaminated water or
contact with a person who has poor hygiene and doesn’t wash their hands regularly. So it seems that getting splashed could lead to being infected. They get splashed a lot in the boat race. It's quite possible that the infected managed to ingest some if it splashed on their face.

As I've said in the past, the whole "shareholders" thing conjures up images of cigar smoking fatcats wallowing in cash at the expense of the working man. Problem is that image is total nonsense. Thames Water is majority owned by Pensioners. 20% of it is owned by the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

And who owns Macquarie? Again, investment groups and pension funds. Anyone with a private pension will effectively be a shareholder in something. Yes, there will be some wealthy individuals involved, but most people will have no idea who or what their pension is invested in. | |

There was a leak a couple of hundred yards up the road from us, it took them 6 months to fix it - they dug the road up three times and had traffic lights etc in place for each job. Whenever I went past the guy who was on his own was sitting in his van. It wasn’t a Welsh Water van, but one of these private companies who do the subcontracted work. Mental.
