I'm not a father, but it must feel like the worst pain in the world. No idea how you get through it, but Nick Cave (who lost two sons) has spoken and written with exemplary power and spiritual grace on the topic.

God, that is awful. So so sad. My second is 3 months old. I’m feeding her at this very moment. Doesn’t bear thinking about. Heart goes out to him and his partner.

How unimaginably sad. My heart goes out to both Matt and Liam, and their respective families. May their sons rest in peace.

How sad for both families.

I read Steve Bruce (Matt's father in law) also given time off to grieve.

Wishing them all well.

Sincere condolences to the family & friends of Matt Smith & Liam Manning. I still grieve the death of my sister in 1967, so I have no idea how you cope with the death of your child.

We lost our baby daughter 15 years ago and it still casts a long shadow

I recently discovered Nick Cave’s writing on this (especially Ghosteen and Red Hand Letters) and I agree he Is exceptional. i don’t think I’d have known what spiritual grace means previously, but something like that shines through.

Sending love and best wishes to Matt and family. Be gentle with yourselves and each other.
