Film 2025 17:13 - Jan 10 with 71024 views | E17hoop | To save polluting the TV thread, I thought I'd start a thread for the films we've seen this year. I saw A Real Pain the other day and it's a really nicely put together piece by Jesse Eisenberg. It unpeels like an onion, with each layer getting closer to the central pint. Good film. Babygirl could have been so much better. Nicole Kidman does well but it all feels a bit 'off'. Rewatched Anatomy of a Fall the other day - brilliant.

Film 2025 on 17:29 - Aug 13 with 5008 views | E17hoop | Some more recent film watches... Inside - Aussie prison drama with Cosmo Jarvis once again being brilliant. Weapons - first film from the makers after Barbarian. The first two acts are great but it's a bit predictable in the third - some great gore if you like that of course. The Naked Gun - Remake we didn't know we wanted. And still don't. Terrible. The Fantastic Four First Steps - best of the superheroes films for a while until I saw... Superman - this was brilliant. Loved the storytelling, casting, the whole thing.

Inside sounds great! I'll give that a go tonight. Agree F4 & Superman! Apart from the pocket universe cartoony fight thing which was a bit much, I really liked Superman. You can tell they're trying more feel-good and earnest appraoaches instead of the dark brooding stuff, and it's a nice change. Fantastic Four was like a live action Incredibles.

Saw Weapons last night … I enjoyed it. Actually laughed a fair amount and appreciated the tension. E17, what did you think of Barbarian? I preferred Weapons, but perhaps because Barbarian gave me an idea of what I had signed up for this time…

I LOVED Barbarian. It started one way and then just went somewhere completely different. There was humour in Weapons which I hadn't expected and appreciated the moments of levity.

Film 2025 on 15:30 - Aug 19 with 4616 views | E17hoop | Nobody 2 - more of the same and more inventive violence. In and out in 90 minutes like all the best popcorn movies need to be. Sunlight - very strange road movie with Nina Conti as the main protagonist in a monkey suit. It's stayed with me and I'm not sure why.

Film 2025 on 23:31 - Aug 29 with 4158 views | 100percent | Saw 'Caught Stealing' tonight.. purposely never read the reviews or watched the trailer Really enjoyable romp = very much in the vein of an early Guy Richie type crime comedy/drama. Lots of cameo characters - with Zoe Kravitz as the female lead. Strong 8/10 from me...

Film 2025 on 13:22 - Sep 8 with 3606 views | Bluce_Ree | Recent watches. Nobody 2 - as entertaining as the first but a little more stupid. Sharon Stone is terrible as the main baddie. The Naked Gun - made me laugh a couple of times but that dried up. If you want a similar film but with an actual story, just watch Dragnet. If you want a film with more jokes, and they all land, go with The Man With Two Brains. Not great. The Monkey - Stephen King meets Final Destination. Sort of. Lots of fun with big, daft kills. Hallow Road - for a film set in a car this horror film was nicely tense. Would have been even better if they'd ended it a minute earlier. F1 - a very enjoyable advert for Ninja blenders. Superman (2025) - just awful. Every scene with Supes/Lois in it was unwatchable. The main character in the film seems to be a terrible CGI dog. Nick Hoult does a good job as the bad guy (albeit a bit whiney) maybe. None of the jokes landed. It was just stupid all the way through. Dumbed down shite. Bleeding - miserable vampire film full of stupid conversations. Basically a film about drug dealing but with a vampire in it. Osiris - Imagine Predator but on the ship from Alien but not as good. And then throw in Linda Hamilton but with a terrible Russian accent. Despite all that, it was a lot of fun. I mean it can't be worse than the last three Predator films. Night of the Hunted - tense drama about a woman pinned down by a sniper in a petrol station. 28 Years Later - all the way through it I knew I was watching a really bad film. But I enjoyed it somehow. It does everything wrong though. And that ending. F**K OFF. Marshmallow - horror film with the standard 'Camp Crystal Lake' set up but done differently. I liked it a lot. Megan 2 - more of an action film than a horror. A T2 rather than a Terminator. I enjoyed it but it's really low on substance.

Watched that on a flight home recently, was really good Finally got round to seeing Happy Gilmore 2 at the weekend. I loved the first one and never expected it to be any good but it did make me laugh more than a few times Also saw Nobody 2 the other week and loved it

Yeah it was shit, Danny Boyle is an odd one at times. Still think Trainspottiing 2 was an insult to the original.

Trainspotting 2 was indeed an absolute pile of shıte. Not totally Danny Boyle's fault though because the source material (Porno) is a million miles from being as good as Trainspotting book. I'm still waiting for them to make a film of my favourite Irvine Welsh book Marabou Stork Nightmares, but I'm not sure that'll ever happen!! Got to say I really liked 28 Years Later. It was definitely not what I expected, a very different tone / mood from the previous two. But I thought it was really interesting, and it made some interesting points. I thought Ralph Fiennes was great. I enjoyed the unexpected parallels with Apocalypse Now in the later parts of the film and the ending / setup for The Bone Temple sequel was bonkers.
Film 2025 on 23:16 - Sep 8 with 3042 views | PeterHucker | a few other good films I've seen recently, all of which I'd recommend if you like to watch something a little different from the mainstream.... The Surfer Dream Scenario Arcadian (all 3 of those feature Nicolas Cage doing Nicolas Cage things, I am into that so if you are too then get on those) All My Friends Are Dead Sisu Corner Office Fried Barry (that last one is particularly odd)

I really enjoyed the Surfer. It wasn't what I expected at all. Sisu is just barmy and they're supposedly making a sequel. I really enjoyed Signs on Life at the weekend. A film about grief which makes you work at it. I struggled with The Monkey - it started well and then became a bit predictable. Looking forward to Caught Stealing this week.

Film 2025 on 21:45 - Sep 9 with 2606 views | ChrisNW6 | Saw Weapons this evening, well worth a cinema visit. Had my interest from the start to finish and really well paced. Pretty bonkers as well, but the horror and storyline worked. Solid cast as well, love it when a script like this gets backed and produced so well.
Film 2025 on 16:34 - Sep 10 with 2339 views | simmo | Watched/rewatched a few under the radar films recently. Dangerous Animals - a mini horror-style film about a guy feeding people to sharks. Jai Courtney is great Rebel Ridge - this one is on Netflix and it's my 2nd watch. Low key cast and gets you straight away. Like a Rambo-esque plot about a man taking action against corrupt local police. I don't know how the main guy isn't in more - and he's from London which I discovered after. Strong recommend.

Marabou Stork was my favorite Welsh book too, apart from Trainspotting. Tough book to film though I'd imagine [Post edited 10 Sep 19:43]

I also saw Caught Stealing this week. Exact same score for me, 8/10. Certainly not a typical Aronofsky film but given some of his output that’s probably a good thing? I was enthralled throughout … my wife didn’t like it, though. Shrug. Going to The Long Walk tonight. I’ve long wanted to see a solid adaptation of that novella and based on the buzz around it, that’s what I have in store for me. We’ll see…
