So our last home game was against John Eustace’s Blackburn and our next home game may well be against John Eustace’s Derby County. And he was our ex-assistant manager. Sounds like all sorts going on at Blackburn.

Was reading that he still lives in Derby and travels to Blackburn 5 days a week, Blackburn is obviously owned by those weird owners, so you can’t blame him.

Could one day manage here, I would suggest.

If we had appointed him after Warburton, the Beale-Critchley-Ainsworth Triumvirate could have been avoided and we could have appointed Marti after Eustace got poached from ourselves.

We will never know !!

Eustace did play for Derby towards the end of his playing career
still, swapping promotion chasing Blackburn for relegation haunted Derby would be a strange career move. DC have no more money than BR. If he does retain a property in Derby, it makes sense, from a family POV.

Nothing would surprise me but he is well liked at Blackburn. They have had a wobble but they are still in the play offs. Good coach. We would have been fine if we'd gone from Warbs to John.

Thought Blackburn were dreadful when we played them, so I don't mind another crack at a Eustace team personally!

If he goes to Derby and it fails, he can blame them, as he's a proven top 6 manager with Brum and Blackburn now.

As a result, he can make demands on what players he wants, whereas I suspect at Blackburn he cannot despite doing so, well for them.

If it goes bad at Derby, he always has the Brum job to fall back on when that opens up. Whereby he will get more privileges the 2nd time around.

So, it all depends on can Derby give him more money and more transfer monies to spend than he would get at Blackburn. Otherwise he's staying where he is.

Question is, do Derby still have the EFL on strings?

After the EFL cut the last set of strings, Derby have returned with strings made from more resistant piano wire. Mwaahaaahaa...

Am I missing something? At Brum, he kept them up by a few points and then they sacked him at the start of the following season for unclear/undisclosed reasons connecting to the footballing culture there. It's not exactly tree-tearing-up territory, is it?

Blackburn are doing OK this season, but I'd still back us to finish above them. It's about where teams finish, not where they are in February.

For me, Eustace resembles a resonable journeyman coach who's still finding his way in the game. WIth us, he was part of the problem with the team's decline under Warburton, and I didn't find him particularly inspiring or charismatic.

He's shown at Birmingham and at Blackburn he can get a team together, organised, working for each other, and punching above where they should be.

Birmingham were sixth shortly before he was binned off because their American owners wanted to introduce all their rich mates to Wayne Rooney after the match, not John from Cov. They ended up plummeting down the league and getting relegated after he went.

It's amazing Blackburn are sixth. When you look at what the Rovers fan said in the pre-season preview on this site he had them dead last. Shambolic ownership situation and no money and he's got them in the play offs.

So that's pretty perfect for Derby really. Not sure I'd jump from Blackburn to Derby at this point personally but that perhaps says something for how bad things are behind the scnes at Ewood.

All true, but he's still a relatively inexperienced manager who's not yet had a top six finish.

Anyway, I much prefer Joe Strummer - From Willesden to Cricklewood.

But you're unlikely to get a top six finish at Birmingham and Blackburn in those circumstances, doesn't mean he didn't do a great job. I don't think we're going to finish top six this season, doesn't detract from the job I think Cifuentes has done here which is exceptional. And Eustace did have both teams sixth when he left.

Also, who are Derby in their situation to command an experienced manager with a history of top six finishes? I'm amazed Eustace wants to go there never mind anybody else.

Something that has fascinated me about this whole thing is that Derby apparently have triggered Eustace's £500k release clause. Never ceases to amaze me how low managers release clauses are and how little clubs are willing to pay compared to players!

I rate him highly and, given that Derby are almost out of sight in our rear-view mirror while Blackburn are currently sat in the league spot which is the absolute height of our current ambition, I'm quite glad to see him making the move (less so if Derby massacre us on Valentine's Day, obviously.)

He's spent money at Blackburn. They have had Armstrong, Brereton & Szmodics sold that must be close to 40 million ++.

Surely he has spent more than many championship clubs

He’ll ditch Derby for Cardiff by the end of March. He just wants to be at Loftus Road really.

Seems quite wild from the outside, but lots of reports saying Blackburn wouldn't look to extend his contract. If we forget league positions for a second, Derby coming in and offering even just similar amounts of money on a long-term contract (also happen to be his team) probably makes some sense after all.

How Derby can afford to trigger the clause in the contract, in their position, I wouldn't understand - but I figure Blackburn weren't optimistic about Eustace initially.

I like him, wish him all the best

That really is a bad post by thee club.

They should have said nothing until he's left and then done the wish all the best and say he wanted to be near his family and so on excuse. Not bitter at all are they? Yet it was they who had the low £500K clause in.

But that is a bitter comment if ever there was one.

Mark Robins should have waited for this job rather than going with Sjoke. I bet they go for Rohl as the obvious choice. Seeing as his chairman is mad as a box of frogs!

The problem is that he'll have no time to impose his methods on the team, but they will be buoyed by his arrival - other teams get this new team bounce that we don't.
