🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job 19:37 - Feb 17 with 70709 views | KeithHaynes | Let’s start with the ones who are way out of their depth. Rob Page Garry Monk. The Swans need to be focussed and a proper manager who knows the Championship and has been successful is the only answer. Quit dreaming about idiots 👍

🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job on 16:38 - Apr 9 by jack247 | I’m totally with you on your first paragraph. No doubt he did a good job last time and has saved us from relegation this time. He’s also clearly liked and respected by the players. I’d just much rather someone with Bellamys mindset to be honest. It shouldn’t be ‘how can we contain Derby’ it should be ‘how can we impose our game on Derby’. He may change my mind tonight and in the remaining fixtures. |
Fair play. He’s totally changed my mind and it only took him 45 minutes
🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job on 09:10 - Apr 10 with 1771 views | RichardO | Sheehan has done everything we needed him to do as a coach in this second stint. Don't know if he was ready for the managers job after his first stint after Duff was gone but he seems to have turned around a team that were getting beat by teams we shouldn't have been beaten by. He has been helped by having his first team choice of players available to him and injury free even having players to change things but to do that he had to change the setup which previous managers seemed unable to do on a consistent basis. Hope he can continue to do it until the end of the season, if he does then he is a must for the job next season but will need to secure new players of the quality of O'Brien and Delacroix at a very minimum to be competitive next season. It remains to be seen what happens until the end of the season but at the moment I would be looking to give him the job for next season

Correct. How many times have we complained about how weak the squad is ? Yet he's done this with that squad. When you see the effect the addition of two quality players has, Delcroix but especially O'Brien, you have to believe that if three or four are added the difference next season could be dramatic.

To me that would also suggest that the squad is nowhere near as weak as some of the drama queens thought it was. O'Brien is a quality player, but for a number of seasons now plenty have thought that building a team and playing to the strengths of Matt Grimes was holding us back. LoB has certainly made the transition to a Grimes Free Future easier, but still the transition was also key.

We don't but even when we have in the past we've managed. What I'm getting at is that every season we hear the same moans and grumbles about how "weak" the squad is when in reality it's about the same in terms of depth and strength as 16-18 other clubs in the division. It's not as strong as the recently relegated, nor as poor as the recently promoted. It's OK. Comfortably mid-table. four or five more points during that hellstorm after the turn of the year and we could be sitting in tenth. People used to whine about the squad Martin had when it was easily capable of a good playoff push given competent management. The squad we have now isn't at that level but as we've seen recently is certainly capable of more than Williams got out of it.

Richard Montague stated that our squad is ranked 10th-12th on Championship wages. The aim is to out perform our wage level. We can not compete financially with the teams at the top because every season 6-9 clubs have parachute payments. Currently we are performing below our level, finish top half which we still can and we will be performing at our level. Montague aims to "recruit smart" to give us our best chance next season. The words of our DoF last Thursday, let's see how it goes.
🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job on 12:43 - Apr 10 with 1435 views | ncswan | Management/Board really need to weigh whether to offer Sheehan the job now as opposed to waiting until season's end. A lot of "what ifs": 1. What if Sheehan's team continues to win, because if streak continues then his value will surely continue to rise, therefore his contract becomes more expensive?; 2. What if he continues to win games, impresses not only us fans, management, board members, but also other clubs?; 3. And the least likely, what if he falls on his face from now until season's end? I think the @ Sunderland game will be a crucial game for Sheehan. If he wins, then other clubs will chase after him. Could a positive Saturday result mean that Management/Board may lose the great opportunity to keep him for next year? Need to sign him now before it's too late. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The other variable is who are our other options and what do they bring? Without knowing that, it’s impossible to have an informed opinion on whether he is the best man for the job.

Then again do you trust them to know who is the best man for the job. I know we have a new lot, but recent manager/coach appointments don't fill me with confidence. [Post edited 10 Apr 14:17]

Not implicitly no. In fairness, recent managerial appointments have been based on budget. Chris Davies has just breezed league one (albeit with the best squad). Derby were adrift not long ago, John Eustace has turned them around. They were preferred to Luke Williams and Michael Duff, we just couldn’t afford them. Has that changed? It may or may not have.
🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job on 14:47 - Apr 10 with 1236 views | ncswan | I think the proverbial "bird in hand, two in the bush" phrase applies here. A lot of us here on this board say Sheehan is the "cheap" option. Well, right now he's the best option. He's in command of his locker room and has results to back his claim.
🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job on 14:51 - Apr 10 with 1218 views | ncswan | I really do admire how he presents himself and how he conducts his interviews. 100% humility, putting others first. He speaks well. He really seems to inspire his charges, doesn't he. And, he's shown that he does his homework in preparing for games, and has multiple formations and gameplans. I do believe he's ready for the job full-time.

Sometimes I wonder if Chris Davies would have cost more than, paying compensation for Duff then sacking him and paying him off then paying compensation for Williams then sacking him and paying him off. I don't think so. Not even considering buying players to suit different styles then bombing them out on loan.

This is kind of my point. He may well be the best option, he certainly ticks a lot of boxes. But how do we know there isn’t another Graham Potter out there waiting for his break, or someone with Steve Cooper like contacts that could pay dividends? He’s in the box seat and the club are keeping their options open. That’s how it should be imo
