🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job 19:37 - Feb 17 with 67334 viewsKeithHaynes

Let’s start with the ones who are way out of their depth.

Rob Page
Garry Monk.

The Swans need to be focussed and a proper manager who knows the Championship and has been successful is the only answer. Quit dreaming about idiots 👍

Widell will be a straight swap for O'brien and according to Montague we will be strengthening throughout the team in the summer. This time I actually believe them.

O'Brien will be big shoes to fill but hopefully Widell will.
We have seen good young players be brought into the team since relegation and they have had to deal with the expectations on them while trying to get to grips with the rigours and qualities in the Championship, some have been sold on, some have moved on of their own accord , we will see some move on this summer but hopefully we can keep a core of a team that want to be here with enough quality to be competive in the Championship and be an attractive option for players to stay, for a while at least.

Where's the money coming from though, yes we can get rid of the dead wood, but to who, who knows, but how much money will that give us and with the P&S rules we're not gonna be able to payout a lot of money?

Can’t see Widell going straight into the team mate, there’s a rumour of another midfielder, which if I guess accurately would be the man to replace O’Brien.

Given what we have paid for Widell, Keith and the fact that he is on the fringes on the Swedish national team, why would he not go straight in alongside Franco with someone else coming in for LoB?

Just that we are searching for a replacement plus a more mature player from what I’ve been told mate. No more than that really. Thing is it’s April now and much of these deals already focussed on will either collapse or not be financed sufficiently.

Three across the middle in defensive and attacking positions and two new wingers is the preferred choice, but then of course will Alan Sheehan be at Swansea then.

What's your thinking on Sheehan Keith or would you rather not say. My hunch is they are courting someone and if they agree that's it, if they don't its Sheehans.

Could well be Sheehan, but he hasn’t got overall support from those who make the decisions. That’s how it is today. Personally whatever they do it has to be right this time.

Thanks for the reply. Personally I can't see why we are waiting until the end of the season if they are going to give it to Sheehan anyway. Win on Wednesday and we are safe, if he's having the job give it on Thursday and let's plan for next season.

A win on Wednesday would give Sheehan time to try different things and players to improve the attack while maintaining a good defensive setup although if Darling and Delacroix are gone as expected would some defensive changes be considered? In response to Keith on Widell I would expect more cover for O'Brien in the midfield than just Widell and it would be foolish to think we would be astrong enough in the centre off the park with just the addition of Widell.

Even with Widdel coming in and Allen potentially resigning I would still expect another CM to come in. Hard old season and we need an upgrade from Fulton on the bench and to rotate players to keep them fresh. I see Widell going straight into the first team (on a rotation basis at least) personally.

Yes, we definitely need a replacement for LoB, but I would hope that the midfield would look like Franco, Widell and LoB's replacement
Would definitely keep Joe for another year, pay as you play / coaching.
I think Darling will leave so hope we put in an offer for Delcroix?

Way out of our funding range mate, this lot have already caused some concerns on cut backs. Would cost around two and a half million, however, there’s always hope.

Wages will be the main issue I think.

It's the ongoing weekly costs that rack up the annual deficits. Most transfer fees can be made to, if not disappear, but at least appear far less on the balance sheet with accountancy tricks. A £1m salary is much harder to hide.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Maybe another year loan would suit, but he’s on decent money.

If decent money is around what we're offering Darling then perhaps something can be done.

I like him as a player. I think he's done well, and left footed central defenders have added value. Gawd knows we're probably going to need at least one capable CB in the Summer at any rate, so I'd expect the club to at least investigate the possibility of making him that.

I think we will see how Joe Low pans out, sign him and let a tribunal decide. It’s only what I’ve been told but the Swans think they will get him on the cheap. Suit them down to the ground.

Depending on how things go we could do both. If Darling goes then we're basically down to Cabango and maybe Naughton at a push.

Filip Lissah I understand is highly rated but has struggled with injuries. Ideally as a near 21 year old he should be ready to step up as third choice but might not be yet.

This is good content and gives you some idea as to why the players have responded to Sheehan.

And of course if Darling does go they have the spare salary money they would have paid.

And why he is the front runner for the post permanently.

Got no doubts that he's a good coach and someone people can follow. Tactically is he as good as we can get? I have my doubts and so, apparently, do quite a lot of important people at the club.

I think we need to recognise that Alan Sheehan is a top bloke, a good coach and despite that still might not be the right choice in the long term to lead this club. If he gets the job permanently I will support him until he gives me reason not to. If he doesn't I hope he sticks around, but if he chooses not to I hope he does well wherever he ends up.

It's quite refreshing to have a head coach at the club that I respect on a personal level. Been a while.

The saying better the devil you know.

We know how much the players love sheehan, we know how good he is as a coach, why imo gamble on getting a different manager who could just mess up the good work that sheehan has done to get us back on track, not once but twice.

He deserves the chance to do the job full time permanently.

If we dispatch Plymouth I would still like to see how he sets up for the rest of the season when we are safe before giving him the job. He has done ok with a poor squad but I’m still not convinced on whether that is entirely down to Sheehan or how far the squad had regressed under Williams leadership.

I’m totally with you on your first paragraph. No doubt he did a good job last time and has saved us from relegation this time. He’s also clearly liked and respected by the players.

I’d just much rather someone with Bellamys mindset to be honest. It shouldn’t be ‘how can we contain Derby’ it should be ‘how can we impose our game on Derby’.

He may change my mind tonight and in the remaining fixtures.
