🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job 19:37 - Feb 17 with 71328 viewsKeithHaynes

Let’s start with the ones who are way out of their depth.

Rob Page
Garry Monk.

The Swans need to be focussed and a proper manager who knows the Championship and has been successful is the only answer. Quit dreaming about idiots 👍

Personally I think it would come down to if Sheehan wants the job long term. Previous he hasn't been keen although now he is prepared to discuss it. The last thing we want is him accepting it and regretting it.

I quite liked his comments tonight basically saying he doesn’t want the job for the sake of it and that he wants commitment….from the board I assume….as to ambition regarding signings and contract renewals etc as he enjoys winning.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens during the International break.

Bar the ‘nice to have’ posts and social media stuff it’s his to lose atm.

Or the Swans to lose it for him.

Sheehan is in a no win situation in my opinion. If he gets a tune out of the squad, as he has up until now. What incentive is there for the club to strengthen the squad if he was to take the job full time. We seem as a club to be lacking any ambition and forward planning. Will they see Sheehan as a safe bet to tread water with minimum spending. As a coach he and we supporters will obviously want much more, does the club share the same ambition. If not why did the recent ownership structure take place, it's time to make promises and back them up.

I’m a bit more sanguine about this tbh. I think the new ownership are more savvy as to what is needed to make the club more successful. My fear is whether or not we have the right people to identify what we need to play the game we are going to in the future (higher energy, less possession based?). I think the new manager / head co@ch should be picked with the required style in mind, obviously, and have some nouse of the market or be guided by competent club employees. He should be involved in the process other than salary / remuneration negotiation.

Absolutely, I don't see anything different from when dumb and dumber were here, you could argue that we've got worse, certainly off the field that seems to be the case.

On the field as well, we've very few options if any regards players.

We really can’t say that until the summer transfer window. As I said, I think they’ll strengthen well.

I think they have too!

They have had a shambles of a Jan window, have a bit of dough in from Grimes sale and other avenues plus hopefully Piroe money if Leeds go up.
Losing Grimes wage along with Pedersen wage come the summer will open up a lot more manoeuvrability in offering wages.

They need to make up for a few things and now have a lot more wiggle room to do so.

Throw in nearly £1.5M from the Whittaker transfer, although they have to sort out Williams and his staff.

Paying compo in these situations is agreed to be made over time unless a compromise, one-off amount is decided on.

If Swansea win today against Burnley, I would hope it will seal the job for Sheehan.

Both now, I wonder if Sheehan was alluding to the shambles behind the scenes when he talked about things that needed to be done.

He's a football man and must have known that the way we were being run couldn't continue.

Very difficult to speculate plus there are people who know but I’ve asked the team to not find out. It goes back to keeping contacts safe 👍

How many on here wouldn't want Sheehan ahead of a foreign manager if we got to safety with plenty to spare ie we a need a change regardless. Just asking

Me

Not based on nationality or experience, just that if you want to compete with teams with much bigger budgets, you have to do something a bit different. For me, the football he plays is run of the mill.

In fairness, his two stints in charge have been fire fighting so maybe it’s harsh to judge him on that.

If we’re looking to consolidate, stay up comfortably and maybe make a few quid on players like Franco and Widdell, he’s the man for the job. If we are looking to challenge for the playoffs, I don’t think he is.

The decision made in the summer regarding the manager will determine our ambitions as a club. Stick with Sheehan and in my opinion it will show a total lack of ambition, irrespective of the results for the rest of this season. The club needs a massive reboot by the new ownership otherwise we will continue to stagnate, Sheehan is not the answer.
