Liverpool's owners hold them back in many ways. Superb managerial appointments but will not spend big on players or ageing squad members.

He's an excellent player whose involvement in games goes way beyond the remit of a full-back. It also serves as a detriment. He was a big miss for Liverpool recently whose over-reliance on three/four (including the goalkeeper) to perform, is a reason why they fell short against Newcastle and PSG in successive games.

Not 100% he is a defender.
Midfield or on the flanks in more advanced areas, could be more appropriate.

England tried him in the middle, but it did not work as he does not run back. At RB, most of the time, he's already at the back, but as we know, he can get caught out position-wise there as well.
No doubt vision, passing, crossing and free-kicks are world-class.
So, where do you play him?
I suspect he could play RM, but not many teams play that way now. And for England, we have Saka, who, by his absence, has proven to be world-class.
Real have him as he's cheap and they can use him to unlock those stubborn defences and also play as RM like Beckham did for them. You see how it appeals to them. Also, no doubt that Bellingham convinced them to sign him as he's going to be charging into the box to head in those Trent crosses for sure. |  |

I appreciate this might just be me, but if everyone is fit and on their game, TTA is on the bench.
At RB, he always looks doable in a way Walker just doesn't and at 26 no one seems to trust him enough to play him in midfield, where you'd think he'd be better off.

I think Real Madrid is the only club in the world that you shouldn't be upset about your player leaving to join despite the history that player having at your club.
It's the one club where players are willing to run down their contract for and Madrid know players want to be there so they don't have to pay them huge money to get them to sign. | | | |

I've said it before after England games but I just don't get the hype about him. It's he a good footballer? Undoubtedly. Is he the best in any given position? Not for me. His stats are impressive and I'm sure they will be at Real but if you're a good footballer with time and space, they should be. Be interested to see how he copes with the likes of Nico Williams and Raphinha.

Going forward he is incredible to watch, I think he'll be brilliant at Madrid, is always going to be dodgy as a defender which is why he'll drop behind Reece James for England but he's quality going forward | | | |

I remember seeing Bale play against us for Southampton before he went to Spurs and thinking he was unplayable insofar as he played everywhere but goalkeeper and looked better than anyone we had out there. The only other player I've seen with that kind of athleticism is Kyle Walker.
