Uriah Rennie on 14:00 - Apr 3 with 3562 views | numptydumpty | Yes I saw this. Poor chap. Was a trailblazer as a referee though being a black man in charge of football matches at the highest levels, so absolute respect to him for that alone and no one deserves such troubling disabilites at the age he still is.

Uriah Rennie on 14:10 - Apr 3 with 3528 views | Northernr | Similar holiday horror story to that happened to BF of a work colleague. Diving off some rocks at the beach and stepped on a sea urchin. Pulled the spines out, thought nothing of it. Week later permanently disabled and wheelchair for life. Sporty lad, 19 years old. Sued the NHS for a lot of money I believe cos when he got back he went to Newcastle hospital on several occasions saying something wasn't right and they sent him home with painkillers thinking he was just a pissd up student. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-21207556

That's rough. Remember that guy a few years ago who was paralysed from the next down and was going to the courts so that he could be legally killed? The whole 'right to die' thing? That poor bastard was on a work trip somewhere hot. Got sunstroke. Next thing you know he's Christopher Reeve-ing it for a decade hoping some judge will let him kark it with a bit of dignity. Judge was like 'LOL, no!' and so my man had refuse food and go out Band Aid style. Do they know it's Christmas style, man. It's not right. The way I see it, if a man can't wipe his own ass, he should be able to say to a doctor 'inject me right in the face with Blokekiller 3000.' Poor old, Uriah though. Yeah, shit ref but I liked him because he was into his martial arts. Now the man can't walk. This world is brutal. Cameron's Britain, fam.

Uriah Rennie on 11:35 - Apr 4 with 2791 views | Lblock | My spine issue minor compared to this but I have to laud Rennie for his mental strength through this. Constant pain and a fear of a paralysed life can take you to some pretty dark places. Hope he makes a full recovery and...... (can't resist it)... get's "settled"

I agree with you. If his sad experience shows us anything: cherish life, make the most of it and don't waste it! RIP Uriah

Liked him too. Up there with Roger Kirkpatrick if I had a favourite set of refs, which I don't. RIP Uriah

I agree, I don’t recall which QPR games he officiated, but he could handle any quarrels on the pitch because of his stature and fitness. There weren’t many players that I can remember who would argue too much with him.
Uriah Rennie on 12:44 - Jun 9 with 766 views | Beejnewark | I remember him as being a lot better than most of his successors. RIP.
Uriah Rennie on 15:12 - Jun 9 with 533 views | numptydumpty | Wasn't aware of him being a bad ref as the op suggests Remember him as being quite a presence and he took no cr*p from players which for me, wasn't a bad thing. Clearly a very determined man and to be the first black male referee, he would have faced a lot more hurdles than most to make it to the highest level. Very sad and yes as some have said we really have to be mindful of things all the time. None of us know when our time is up. Never could understand why churches were full of old people. Now I am older, can understand the thinking. RIP Uriah. Gone too soon. [Post edited 9 Jun 15:12]

Uriah Rennie on 15:23 - Jun 9 with 514 views | themodfather | sad news , the question must be why so few refs make it thru the system? regardless of colour , no refs no game.

Uriah Rennie on 16:54 - Jun 9 with 355 views | Clive_Anderson | Sad news, I thought he was a half decent ref, especially compared to what we get served up these days. Also he finished reffing 17 years ago? Has time sped up or something?
