Went to my first fondu party tonight, and got stuck into a load of Swiss peach Schnaps. Swaying.

I find the Endel app helps, or a podcast about something monotonous.

Thanks for the Endel app tip, I will investigate.

Talking in to the night about QPR certainly wouldn't help!

Morning fellow night owls. As I always say about insomnia: it's like a wake, but without booze!

Currently in Porto for a few days. Different bed, noises etc., so no chance of a good night's kip. Fly home later, so next few days will see similar issues.

Cheers for Endel tip, off to investigate.

Both are good.

What also works for me is an old audiobook. I drift off fairly quickly either when I go to bed or - as happens more as I get older - when I wake in the middle of the night. Has to be an old audiobook, though - new ones keep me awake and awaiting what happens next.

Anyone about?

After years of beer drinking at the football and social occasions I decided to switch to the rum and coke at a BBQ and now I’m all caffeined up and can’t sleep.

Reckon I’ve sobered up bit buzzing like mad and getting on the other half’s nerves.

How do I de caffeinate myself? I normally don’t touch the sugary drinks.

Still up. Cannot get off to sleep.

Pottering about watching Youtube videos and crap like that.

I also listen to podcasts and can highly recommend Fotun Adebeyo and Tim Vickery world football show on BBC sounds. About three hours of chat. Often sounds like Dotun had been partaking in the wine but Tim is always superb. If I really can't sleep I listen to that most boring gold podcast regarding technique and mentality. On that note I highly recommend the chipping forecast on Spotify. Andrew Cotteral and Eddie Pepperel. Ostensibly about golf but many interesting and humorous musings. Apologise to all involved in the spelling of these names.

I found myself awake at 5.30am and miraculously, remembered that it's International Dawn Chorus Day. I stuck my head out the window for a while and had a listen.

It seemed quite muted and distant compared with 20 years ago, but there were still quite a few different birds singing.

I'm not great at identifying them by their songs but there were robins, blackbirds, crows and wood pigeons in there, plus, more intriguingly, something I hadn't heard much before.

One problem was that because there was so little other noise at that time of day, when a 'plane went by, the din it made was huge and seemed almost endless.

Good luck sleeping, insomniacs. If ever I can't sleep, I find reading a book helps me drift off.

Hello darkness my old friend......................

If it’s any consolation (I know it won’t be), I often wake up in the middle of the night.

Sometimes it’s easier to get back off, sometimes more difficult. I am not going to offer any glib solutions for you because we are all different.
