What would we have done without him? His loan signing early in the January window has proved critical. So fair play to whoever in the club picked him out.

And, whilst about it, ever seen a loan player give so much, every game, and seem to love being here? Look at his celebrations at the end yesterday!

As you say credit where it's due an inspired signing in January, for a player of his age to show his commitment on loan and through his performances become a leader on the pitch, I can't help feeling it has something to do with him saying when interviewed that his Dad supports the Rs.

Generally have very little time for loan signings from bitter experience but as you say, fair play on this one. A good player and was very much needed with all the injuries. I think he will go on to have a good career, sadly not with us.

Yep - nice thread and well deserved. This one worked , clearly.

I do wonder what we do now, though, with Ronnie for the last 3 games? Yes we want to finish as high as possible and his excellent performances at the back would be clearly instrumental in that. But the interests of Queens Park Rangers FC must always come first. Ronnie, sadly, is not going to stay (barring a miracle?) so his superb work with us is now effectively done. We straightaway now need to be looking at and working with the players who will be here next season IMHO.

Fully understand the sentiment that we can't block our own players but I want us to attempt to win the last three games and at the moment Morrison and Edwards are our best centre back pairing.

Cook and JCS are injured, we could move Fox or Jimmy into the middle and they are both out of contract in the Summer, if Edwards was blocking Morrisons path then the point would be valid but he isn't , so let's stick with our strongest back four and try and have a strong finish to the season.

It's all about opinions I think Jimmy is good at centre back but he's our best right back option at the moment, I'm clinging to the hope that making him captain means he may be signing a contract at some stage, yeah wishful thinking for sure.

He’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet for Marti, who wants to achieve more than last year.

We only have Fox to replace him and it sounds like he’s off too so why not stick with Buster, alongside Jim.

With the injuries we’ve had I think anyone who was worth a go has had a go by now. Aside of Sutton I think Marti knows where this squad stands.

If Edwards has a single weakness, it’s getting caught under crosses but otherwise he’s an outstanding CB. A sound bloke and hope he has a great career.

Good observation - he really attacks the ball when we have set pieces but remains much more static when defending and seemingly gets caught a little flat footed.

Maybe that’s a bit of zonal marking at play too.

I agree with you and also the original post.

Edwards had been outstanding and if I was a manager of a Premiership (or even Premiership bound like Leeds or Burnley I would be trying to buy him because he is way too good for the Championship.

i am just envious that QPR didn't spot his talent before Peterborough or Southampton, especially as it was only a few seasons ago that we signed Dickie from the lower leagues.

I would play Edwards the last 3 games. He is not blocking one of our own upcoming players at the moment who can step in an perform at this level. Clearly Morrison is growing as a player next to Ronnie also, so give them the last few games together.

Maybe we can convince Southampton to lend him to us for another season.

The 3m mentioned they paid for him probably included sell-on fees, so they would need to get at least probably 3.5 - 4m to just break even.

It's intriguing that Edwards essentially came from playing L1 football (I doubt six months on the bench at Southampton drastically improved his development).

Therefore, as we're unlikely to sign him long-term, there must be a few other potential options - slightly rougher around the edges - lurking in the lower leagues, just like Morrison, who proved himself there last season.

Great player and such a shame our scouting is so crap that we couldn't get him from Peterborough

Bit strange that he didn't hang around for long after the game with the other players and walked down the tunnel on his own for some reason

Our other central defenders (JCS and Cook) are injured, that's why Ronnie came in to begin with. And even if they weren't, we know what they're capable of, there's nothing to look at. Indeed, were JCS fit I'd be wrapping him up in cotton wool for these final 3 games.

The terms of the loan deal will no doubt be until the end of the season. We're paying for the lad's services so it would be churlish not to utilise him. Besides, he's been one of the few shining lights in an otherwise uninspiring season. Let the fans enjoy!

I voted for him as both POTY and YPOTY as he has been our stand-out player since January.

While I do think we're improving in terms of developing young players (and Nourry is right to want younger players coming through), it is an indictment of Les's tenure (which was all about growing our own) that our best young player is someone else's.

Do you not think that, and I cannot think of her name, the women that ran the Academy for several years has a major role in developing the youngsters in the Academy.

I have seen it is action and I know a QPR scout and to be honest it is pretty average indeed and, perhaps, why she is no longer involved and why we are not producing good young players.

Ronnie Edwards has been such a positive signing for us. Gutted that he's not with us permanently. The club gets its fair share of things wrong but this loan isn't one of them.

I voted the same way.
Thought about it for a while as voting for a player that’s only played half a season against those like Jimmy , Nardi and Smyth for example who have played twice the amount of games felt slightly disrespectful.

But his level of performance over those games has been very very impressive .
It did mean both my player of the year votes and my goal of the season vote went to loan players.

For some reason that doesn’t sit right.

I think it's only fair that as we've employed so many useless blokes in that role we balance it up.
