25/26 Squad on 11:34 - Apr 28 by 49thseason

I suspect there will be a monumental clear-out at OT over the summer, there may be a number of younger players looking for clubs , especially the local lads. Bearing in mind that the Ogdens know Jim Ratcliffe, you would hope they have " had a word"....

Equally if Hendo isnt going to play next season, his salary might be enough to attract Bird or a similar player. Equally, after a dodgy couple of games back from injury EEL improved sufficiently to be a decent addition next season, but will Hogan want to play secong fiddle, and what of Ferguson who at 25 really needs to be starting games?Edwards has been a revalation coming into the team as though he had been playing for years. The basis of an excellent squad is there but we do need a poacher and a target man like Bird, if not Bird. Or....... imagine pairing him with Linney......that would pull in the crowds....

I have a feeling Linney will make the move to an upper League 2 next season - or maybe even League One, he reminds me of a Peterborough-type signing. That said, Posh signed Chris Conn Clarke last summer from Alty and he's not kicked on.

Nick Haughton is bound to be a popular target - 3rd top scorer and 3rd top assister for a relegated side, and he's consistently up there every season. Not sure where he would fit in with our system and team though. Its the big man up front we need to prioritise, although any team with Haughton in it will benefit at this level.

Agree about Haughton, he turns draws into wins against the teams who like to defend with eleven men. We'd need to strike while the iron is hot with him before he's snapped up by a rival club. Carlisle will be the big spenders in our league next season.

Posh also signed George Nevett, and sent him out on loan therefore missing a Wembley appearnce. 'He's better off playing senior football rather than being in the under-21's'. thats what Ferguson said of him, which beggars the question- why sign him in the first place? because its plain to see that fergy junior is like his father- a crap coach who relies on others to improve players.

He was in the Posh squad up until the end of February and has appeared in over 20 games. He returned to the bench a couple of weeks ago and played 90 minutes against Bolton on Saturday.

Where and when did he go out on loan?

I think calling Sir Alex a "crap coach" is quite remarkable. I don't like the bloke but a recent "must watch" bbc documentary on his career on th'igh player, would suggest he might be in the top ten coaches the UK has ever produced.

Good post, i'd put Ferguson in the top one and i don't particularly like him. The way he constantly recycled the team, identified when it was time to move iconic players on, handled big characters, brought through the youth players, the way his team played the game, his strong personality, his winning mentality. Look at the modern day coaches these days, they remind you of your old school PE teacher. Society has changed, shouting and hurty words are no longer allowed.

I think both Kyle Ferguson and Fin Armstrong are decent players, but both have suffered due to the excellent form and fitness of Sam Beckwith, who was voted Players' Player of the Season and hardly missed a game, whilst Hogan has also been pretty good since he was signed.

Who we keep/offer new terms to depends to a certain extent on the players themselves. Ferguson may want to move on elsewhere for a regular starting position, so might Armstrong, even though he's contracted. Will Liam Hogan want to carry on at this level (or possibly L2), or would he prefer less travelling?

I also agree that Jack Kingdon would be an excellent recruit, but probably out of our league - I imagine Bolton, Wigan or Stockport (or other L1/2 clubs) would also be interested.

I'm sorry to be harsh but Fin Armstrong isn't good enough. He's not played much because of that. A bit like Afuye last season - it was obvious. The limited times I've seen Armstrong he looks short of pace, uncomfortable on the ball and not a good passer... apart from that he's average.

For me its no coincidence that the late-season upturn has coincided with the injury to Liam Hogan. He's one of the worst culprits for slowing the pace of play down to a walk and I'd be definitely letting him go.

I wonder if these aplolgies from the players are really from the heart or have they been "persuaded" to post, I do hope it's the former. And if they have been encouraged, I hope it's not at the behest of McNulty.

I think Mitchell will be offered a new contract, but will turn it down and move on, Henderson retirement is sad and maybe we get Bird back on loan.

I would consider signing Alex Reid from the Biffo's at Wealdstone this season he scored 16 goals in 26 games, his record at the national league level is about 1 goal in every 3 games and he is out of favour with Micky Mellon.

One thing we need a mixture of technical footballers and big physical players, like Rodney, sadly we have to many light weights in the squad.

Corey Edwards has signed a pro deal, the usual one year with a year in our favour. I can't remember who posted saying this was coming, but hopefully that means Oscar Kelly won't be far behind.

I am as others have suggested, predicting major problems in the striker/goal scoring department. We will have nothing left as Hendo will rightly retire, bird is too good for our league and fighting recurrent injury and Kyro is 110% broken but will move. There is a massive rebuild needed from back to front. We could and probably will see a completely different side next season.

Agree with the strikers but

Devante Rodney
Ethan Ebanks-Landell
Harvey Gilmour
Kyron Gordon
Ryan East
Sam Beckwith
Tarryn Allarakhia
Tobi Adebayo-Rowling
Aidan Barlow
Corey Edwards

These will all be in the first team squad.

This close season we are starting from a much better place.

I think It will be adding quality to that spine plus a completely new front line and keeper rather than a complete rebuild back to front.

Whether that will be enough is another story.

Call me naive but from your list:

Rodney - may get taken off us. Personal opinion, but Rodney still looks energy deficient and will not get the goals we need next year
Ethan- post injury started poorly but came back towards the last few games. Not the answer as captain or sustainable defence strength
Gilmore and Gordon - solid
East - great lad but very formation dependant
Beckworth - decent
Tarryn - great but looked fitness dependant
Tobi - solid
Barlow- solid and creative
Edward’s - developing

As a squad we are short and recruitment is crucial. Nothing uo front, wings depleted defence needs strengthening and goal keeper needs sorting. Not much really 😳

We also need to become a goal threat from setpieces and corners. Just look at Oldham and Southend these last few games. Barnet and Forest Green throughout the season. Our centre backs and forwards just dont score enough from these opportunities. If we become a threat from these areas it could give us the extra 20 goals we'll need to go for promotion.

It was a complete surprise when we got a pen against Southend from a great run/throw in.
