As the Marti Cifuentes era at QPR that once promised so much collapses into acrimony and a period tending to his azaleas, Clive, Jim Frayling and Dave Barton try to make sense of a chaotic week of behaviour from the club, where QPR's owners are in all of this mess, and whether you trust these people to master an incredibly difficult summer ahead. Also, Sunderland predictions.

It's come out this week that if he kept us up he got a new contract, the timing of when they announced it was down to the club

I don't think it's as black and white as you paint it. A Manager could well be unhappy with what is happening in certain areas whilst still getting on with his job and enjoying other aspects of it

Ultimatley we've no idea why he's going as the club haven't actually told us the reasons for why he is on gardening leave

"Ultimatley we've no idea why he's going as the club haven't actually told us the reasons for why he is on gardening leave."

Agreed.

What I liked about the podcast is how many times one of you said "I don't know" or "we don't know".

It's really important. It's dangerous to say we know when we don't.

Clive, Jim, Dave, thanks very much. It was really good to get your thoughts and your (gallows) humour. As a Rangers fan of 50 years, you learn to accept the farce as part and parcel of the club.

One thing that puzzles me is - where is Lee Hoos in all this? He is the only member of the Board with any experience of running a football club, he is still chairman and yet he appears to have had no involvement in any of this shambles. When CN took over as CEO, Hoos was going to be there to provide support and experience. Where is he now? Is he still backing CN or just keeping his head down?

Very much involved. Very much backing Nourry.

Thought Jim made a really important point that I wish some of the "cook", "bring" and "snake" anonymous twitter accounts who support QPR like teenagers support their favourite band understood:

At the end of a season, agents will speak on behalf of their clients to all kinds of clubs with vacancies. In the case of managers, their agents will then in late May present three options and ask what they want to do. Want WBA to make an official approach, prefer Norwich, by the way Swansea are not interested - or have we worked a good summer plan in at QPR and put a move a move on ice for a few windows?

That's football. That's the business. This will be going on at other clubs too. Every manager with any kind of hand will be doing it, as will players. Jon Varane's agent will be speaking with clubs, Chair's too, Kolli's, Nardi's - not for this window necessarily, but for one of the next two or three windows. It's not disloyalty necessarily, it's...just professional football.

Lee Hoos knows this. Even Christian Nourry knows this. They have been talking to people employed elsewhere all season no doubt. This whole "gardening leave" thing is performative, specifically to perform a function for anonymous twitter accounts of teenagers to amplify new support for a very unpopular move against a manager whose name is the most loudly sung song at matches.

As Dave B says, it's not about QPR at all. It's all about egos and powerbases. It's revolting. The plan has always been to dispense with him and this is the lever they chose to do so with because they knew the reaction unless they portray him as disloyal.

I say get rid of Lee Hoos, replace him with Jim Frayling. Then let's do an audit of Nourry's work.

A sobering but insightful listen on the Patreon, so thanks for putting that up so quickly.

Some great points being made on this thread and I don't have much to add but it does seem like the club have handled this about as poorly as it could be handled, regardless of who is most at fault.

The appointment of Nourry was/is a very strange one, especially if Lee Hoos is effectively absent - or at least it seems that way from the lack of comms form him and the way in which this has been allowed to play out.

I do understand that without our investors continuing to put money into the club we'd go under, and on one level it's great that they are still doing that. But what I can't get my head around is why they are continuing to do that while there seems to be no plan to get out of this. Yes they are heavily invested already, and I get that they are unlikely to want to walk away without seeing at least some sort of return on that investment. But it's not obvious to me what that plan is and how they could even recoup a decent percentage of the investment let alone make a return on it.

They are smart, successful businessmen, and it wold be great to hear from the club owners as to what they are actually trying to do.

I agree with others that Nourry's comms strategy is pitiful but what are they scared of? I'm pretty sure that a bit of transparency would go over well with the fan base and even if we didn't like or agree with the plans we could at least understand and then get behind them.

It's all very hard to understand.

Separately, I hope all going up to Sunderland have a great day out.

Glory hunter, me

This is one of the most confusing things for me - Hoos when he got here basically hung his hat on "Ask me & I'll give you an answer - it might not be an answer you like or agree with but it's an answer", increased fan engagement all round, hot on the details/no problem too small to raise, etc

How has he gone from that - to advocating for this?

Before you even get into the past week so far this season at Nourry's Q&A there was talk of a supporters consultation committee &, separately, inviting 100 random season ticket holders to discuss any issues directly with Nourry - have those been happening? Look down the school end - second season in a row away fans have suddenly begun appearing in the lower tier again, last season was a ticketing fck up apparently, same again this time?

Random question, anyone know if Marti included as an Intangible Asset on our last set of accounts? If so, for how much? It now looks like we'll not only lose the value of asset, but also flip it straight into our cost line, so effectively a double hit on the next set of accounts.

I might be completely wrong with this though

Yes, all player and manager contracts are intangible assets. His will have to be impaired for the next set though if they don’t sort it by the end of the accounting year (they will).

Not a fan, but I guess this is difference between Hoos the CEO and Hoos the Chairman.

As Chairman he is not obliged to be fan facing, that's what the CEO position is for.

I imagine, like any other business he will have an end of year appraisal with his CEO and hopefully there would be some frank discussions about what has gone poorly this season.

You would hope questions would be asked about our fitness record and the breakdown of relationship with a popular and successful head coach that the club spent some time courting and securing the services of
