It will be interesting to see what Jim's team selection will be today. He might see it as an opportunity to save players for the playoffs and get some game time into the fringe players. Then again he might also feel its a chance to give a key player like Bird a chance to get more match time after injury. I hope he plays Kairo who desperately needs a chance to get his confidence back after his dismal performances of late. Whatever the team and even though there is nothing at stake position wise, I hope we get something from the game and continue our end of season roll.

One of the exiles who was there today has confirmed on WhatsApp that a Southend scout was sitting near them. What he saw will probably have confirmed what most of the league already know about Dale’s strengths and weaknesses.

Wasted 30 mile journey for the Southend scout. They would have learned more off Wiki. Both teams are in much better form than when they met in the league. The bookies will make us favourites, and that is right. Just need to take it to them and get the first hurdle out of the way.

2 awful goals conceded defensively but Ebanks-Landell should have had a penalty awarded 100% when it was 1-0. Blatant shove in the back from their player - not quite sure where the officials were looking? There's been some bizarre reactions to todays result/performance. Last day end of season games with nothing to play for have seen these types of performances many times. It matters not one bit - the season starts now, win 3 games and we are promoted.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
While the result wasn't important to our position in the table, it would have been nice to carry some momentum into the Play Offs with a win.
The changes made sense, Gilmour must be knackered and we need to look after TAR & Gordon. (These 3 and Ayinde were there yesterday and did a 30 minute session of running/warming up before the game).
The changes were evident in the way we played from the start. The frustrating slow build up play was back which got people so annoyed and bored in recent months. It's a shame to say it but East is guilty of slowing us down so so much.
Fair play to Braintree, they were ruthless and were the better side yesterday. Their number 3, the left back, was excellent.

When I say that McNulty is our worst ever manager it's because of displays like today.
You must have youth on your side because imo both Barrow and Buckley were worse. Plus much more recently Stockdale blew a decent budget and did absolutely nothing with it. Look where Chatman and Campbell are now. Spoke with a Southend fan today and was surprised he wasn’t more upbeat. He said they will simply sit and try and grab a goal out of something. I hope not because that is the worst scenario for us. Come the day the first goal will be vital. He mentioned they only have one fit centre half right now.

As low down as Braintree are aswell - they have actually beaten all of the top 4 now at home! The home Southend league game was a bit of a non event if I remember. It was a late kick off for DAZN and they scored a scrappy goal in 1st half stoppage time. That was it! Dont think we really troubled their keeper much - hopefully we can actually go for it and an early goal would help. A cagey 0-0 is not what we want but it will be probably what we get.

Whilst I can understand how a game like Braintree can go the way it did - nothing was at stake, the hard work securing play offs already achieved - it is still worrying to me that at this stage of the season we can put in such a poor performance. We had very little going forward and both of their goals were exceedingly sloppy. I'd hoped that we had moved beyond playing like that and my worry is that we can easily play like that again in the upcoming fixture(s). It would have given me more confidence to have gone into the Southend game on the back of a decent performance/win.

I remember Simpson and Eyre as well those that you have mentioned!
I get that it was a dead rubber for us yesterday but losing games like that is a common theme under McNulty.
I 100% want him to succeed and shove all my critism of him back down my throat but I just can't see it, do people honestly think that we've got three good performances in us to get us over the line and back in The EFL?

Games where we struggle against teams that defend deep? Yep. They’re the achilles heel of this team. Surely by finishing 4th he’s “succeeded” to some extent. Unless there’s anyone expecting more than that?
Three performances in a row? We’ve managed it before this season. But at the same time I think people are realistic enough to admit it’ll be very tough overcoming Southend/Forest Green/possibly York.
Failing that makes him worse than all those other managers? That’s up to individuals. But it would be ignoring far more factual and actual evidence to do so. If people preferred attending Dale games on a regular basis under Steve Eyre than McNulty, then it’d be interesting to hear about the deluge of success and entertainment many appear to avoided being caught up in.

I was surprised at how well Braintree had done as well. In the last 20 game form table they’re 5th (Dale 6th) so have obviously had a good second half of the season.
They’re also called Braintree and not Colchester or Gillingham so it automatically appears worse.
