Think WLS announced this a while back as did Steve himself.

In the article, Nourry speaks and I have to say, the words sounded, well, almost human.

Perhaps, the message/criticism of ChatGPT has been heard.

It does sound like there was an option to extend from the original contract when he joined in 2023. Rather than a brand new deal.
I'm not complaining though as I think Cook deserves at least 1 more year.
I'd like to see some announcements on all the other defenders who are OOC. Even if that means Fox and Paal on the way out.

Happy enough that he's staying if we can get another 30-35 games out of him next season. Clearly seems to be a great bloke.

Announcement seemed very at pains to go into the specifics of why he's got the new deal/extension been triggered. Way more information then would normally be shared by current regime. Have my negative lens on permanently re: club announcements evidently atm but seems worded in a way to make sure they get no blame if he's crocked all year. It wouldn't be their fault as its a preexisting clause but the announcement reads oddly compared to other missives from the club of late.

Yes, I agree. Seemed oddly worded and a bit grudging to me. I think your theory may be accurate.

But, not bothered, we need Cookie.

Same. Made clear it had been triggered rather than saying we actually wanted to extend...a little more of Nourry's previous secrecy might have been kinder!

Think you’re reading all kinds of negative stuff into this.
There was clearly a one year extension clause in Cook’s original contract: this has been triggered.
Its not a brand new contract so the club have described it accurately.
People moan if they aren’t given much info and moan if given too much info 🤣

Have no issue with Cookie staying, the right sort as the old cliche goes and useful in the squad when we already don't have many options.

Would love us to knock all this one announcement a day stuff on the head though. Just give us a released, retained and contracts offered list. one of the first team, one for the scholars, job done, enjoy your summer.

Don’t agree at all.
It much more fan friendly and definitely more interesting to have these split and issued over different days now that the season is over and there is no QPR football to watch.

Lots of clubs have already published their retained lists, so why not QPR?

I don't know which fans this is friendly to, ones who like a slow release of news minus key info like contract lengths I guess. I'm happy for those people, but its not for me. Not my choice to make though sadly. Curious if there are any other clubs who do it, been reading a lot of released/retained lists recently

Each to their own I guess.
If it was done your way they might as well just make a one off announcement of all new signings just before the beginning of the new season.

Good outcome I'm glad about. He may not play every game, but when he does he generally steadies us. If it's true what was said on here about him running on 'fumes', we need more of his fumes. We probably still need a new right back, but this is a good step by the club.

I guess that existing contracts run to end of June, so maybe quite a few still being finalised given we are also between managers.

Never knowingly understood

Not sure you can call something fan friendly as dozens of fans repeatedly call it unfriendly.

Happy with this nonetheless, and gives me some hope about Dunne.

Well dozens of fans are hardly representative of the whole fanbase.

From a pure PR point of view, it's better to keep drip feeding the news. See also D J Trump

Probably clubs who have known for a couple of months which league they are in next season. I can understand conversations of this type only start when your league status is known.

Our league status was as good as known six weeks ago v Cardiff.

No reason why you can’t spend the previous year negotiating for each outcome either.
