Two tier Keir reverses Brexit on 02:33 - May 20 by Kilkennyjack | Rubbish. The Tories/right will vote for Reform. Many others/ progressives will stick with Labour. |
All the recent evidence suggests otherwise. The Runcorn by election saw a massive 20 point swing towards reform from both the Conservatives and Labour. Otherwise Labour would have won comfortably. It was one of their safest seats. For a collapse to happen like that in their very heartland is a bit of a phenomenon. Voters are abandoning Labour in their droves.

Two tier Keir reverses Brexit on 07:33 - May 20 with 1133 views | Dr_Winston | The genuine working class have wised up to the fact that Labour don't represent them any more and haven't for most of the last 30 years. As a result they're voting for alternatives who promise to deliver on what actually concerns them. A plumber in Runcorn doesn't give a shit about Net Zero, or if he does he wonders why we are suffering to achieve it whilst China builds new coal power stations every week. He does give a shit about mass immigration. [Post edited 20 May 7:34]

Raynor has the support of the unions , Starmer not so ,I can't nor want to believe that Reeves is in the frame in fact should the opinion polls showing support for Starmer is falling even further she'll be gone.

The Tories f@&ked the country up completely. It will take years to rebuild it, as anybody with half a brain knows. We are on the right road. That fool Farage will, promise the earth, but the maths just do not add up. They never will. |
I agree, they are getting things done. It won't satisfy everyone, but so what?

Good point. I was respinding to the UK comments about Starmer. Plaid in Wales might get a breakthrough at the Senedd elections Be interesting to see how successful or not they would be. In England i dont think Starmer can out-Brexit Farage ⦠so why bother ? Better to go for the EU loving middle England. Bollox to Brenda and Keith in Stoke.

They have an obligation to follow their manifesto, with all it's variable definitions. And this agreement seems to be following specifically waht they said in their Manifesto. If the Brexit press don't like it, it's probably a good deal.

Most of the fishing fleet in Wales is foreign owned and has been for years. In 2021, the āvalueā of Wales quota was Ā£1.7m of which Ā£1.4m was foreign owned. Over 50% of the English quota is for ent owned while less than 5% of the Scottish (by far the largest) and Irish quotas were foreign owned.

Well said. I particularly like the last line. Never mind the huge number of businesses and business organisations that think it's a good thing. The editors of the mail, telegraph and the express obviously know more than them. The sooner those rags go out of business themselves the better. They are poisonous.

If he wants to make progress and survive, Starmer and his press team need to really get on the front foot and extol the virtues of this deal. They are making some decent progress in some areas, but the vested interests of the Conservatives and their backers in the press are pushing a mantra of Brexit being betrayed or reversed when it clearly isnāt. What exactly was Brexit supposed to look like? Easiest deal in the world, no deal, oven ready deal ? All I know is we had lie after lie after lie. Weāve seen from Donald Trumpās manoeuvring that there has to be compromise, heās had to reverse and back track several times over the last few months. Weāve had 3 trade deals in the last 2 months, thatās a pretty reasonable achievement. Trade deals are always going to have to be a case of give and take, if we can get enough deals then itāll make it easier for our country to trade and hopefully prosper. We saw from the Brexit negotiations that the EU would play hardball and it seems Starmer has had more success out of it than Truss and Boris. Sunak incurred the wrath of the right and the loyalists with his Windsor agreement, but his actions resolved most of the issues in NI. Edit- I forgot to mention the new agreement makes it easier for those people who like to travel abroad with their pets to do so. Another Brucie bonus for many. [Post edited 20 May 22:20]

You've highlighted a problem there - nobody knew what kind of Brexit they were voting for. Not even the politicians, they varied from May's proposals to a potential hard Brexit. So to see some of today's headlines, particularly in the Mail, Express, Sun and the Telegraph is quite frankly ridiculous. People's bug bear seems to be commercial fishing, an almost inconsequential industry and the impacts of allowing EU access to UK waters is miniscule to our fleet. It's jingoistic tup thumping. Starmer seems to have bucked his ideas up - a change in the cut off for getting the WFA has got to be in the post

Two tier Keir reverses Brexit on 07:18 - May 20 by Gwyn737 | Although the trade deal element on fishing is disappointing, Brexit created the circumstances for it to happen. Itās hard to pinpoint what is actually worse for fishermen, the extension of the existing quota deal, or the border checks that have put significant trade barriers up. Also itās a trade deal; there will be layoffs. The fishermen have taken a hit but thereās meat industry is happy. As for being taken back in the EU, that not going to happen. Weāre still going to be out whatever. Brexit supports have spent years having a pop at āremoanersā but are now (ironically) so unwilling to see any positives of a relationship with the EU, theyāre furious with any of the improvements being made, only pointing to the trade offs. |
Hold up there shakey, I voted leave, I've had a pop at "remoaners" but see my posts above... Some people live in the past, constantly moaning about going backwards, some despise the future and the ineviatbel change. Maybe I'm just odd because although I voted leave we have to react to the world around us. For me Brexit was right at the time and here we are today, we have opportuniies that we wouldn't have without brexit. New trade deals with a few countries, a new deal coming with the EU and with Trump, Putin and China being as they are, a new security deal with Europe is an absolute must. Love it or loarhe it we have these opportunities because of brexit...and Trump! We may not get everything we want and the tories will always call any Labour deal a sell out but only an idiot would not try to do something in the current circumstances. And apparently Labour ARe talking about the WFA again. This is where Builthy is 100% right, Starmer has made some daft moves but only a proper fool would have thought they could fix the country qyuckly. It's a 2 term job but they have to do enough in the first term to have a chance at a second, the jury is still out.

Itās not just fish, the checks apply to a huge raft of products and the EU are very thorough in their inspections. Compare that the the situation in our country when we repeatedly delayed the introduction of checks out of a fear it would push prices up, we didnāt have the infrastructure at our ports to do the checks and we didnāt have the staff either. It was a complete shambles courtesy of the last shower. If our producers were being hammered by these checks, youād have thought the government would reciprocate and give the French a taste of their own medicine but we didnāt because we couldnāt. Cards on the table time, I voted out but I didnāt vote for a no deal Brexit and I suspect there were many like me. Given the choice of staying in, or the type of Brexit people like Frost, Farage and Rees Mogg are advocating Iād have voted to stay in. Starmer has signed 3 trade deals which is positive, if he dan bag a few more Iāll be more optimistic, but as things stand if there was a vote tomorrow Iād vote in.

We wouldnāt need a trade deal with the EU if we didnāt Brexit, and as a result would trade with other countries as part of the bloc, so do you really want to spin Brexit as an opportunity to do a trade deal with the EU? š. Good to see you changing your mind on Brexit though.
